Yea I think he was asking what changes actually have taken place, or will take place before the Maine game.

Did he say he would be in communication with the planned changes and/or updates? If he did, I missed that part.

Yes, he absolutely did. He said changes would be communicated prior to the Maine game. SEE LAST PARAGRAPH.

Just because you yelled at me, I'm not going to read it.

Oh, go ahead…….I promise it won’t hurt.

EDIT. Here is today’s release regarding the changes for this Saturday.

I would say the statement that we need to play better in all 3 phases is a significant understatement!

I call the guys come out with high energy and a chip on their shoulders after last week's beat down.

Anyone see a line for this game anywhere? Are we expecting one?

I haven't been able to find a spread, but I'm thinking it would be at least 17 points. Probably should be even higher, but it's hard to say with the Huskies inconsistent play.

Almost all games with FCS teams lines come out the day before or the morning of the game. I did see a line on the Maine--Merrimack game last weekend so I am sure I will see one for this game at some point. If I see one before anyone else posts it, I will.

With all due respect to Maine, NIU should absolutely demolish this team at home. I'm a big believer in respecting your opponent and not overlooking anyone, but if NIU comes out with some revenge energy and executes the way they're capable of... shouldn't be close. We desperately need a W and a big W at that before heading into MAC play.

BEAT MAINE.

I agree that NIU "SHOULD" demolish this team but I do not think that will happen with our incredibly weak defense and with a defensive coordinator that is clearly in way over his head and has no idea how to mitigate our weaknesses on that side of the ball.

I suspect that Maine will score early and often and I am hopeful that NIU's offense is able to move the ball on the ground limiting their time of possession. If that happens, as I suspect that it will, we should be able to outscore them. I suspect a final score something like NIU34 ... Main 28.

If our defense is as weak as I suspect we will not do well in MAC play. It is time to move on from our Derrick Jackson just as soon as we are able to afford to do so. Given the constraints on our resources we likely cannot afford a buy out so I am hopeful that his contract expires at the end of this season. His continued presence has to be a drag on recruiting at this point.

RE: a look at the BLACK BEARS
It's a big game in that I think it will be telling whether we have a realistic shot competing for the conference and/or a bowl game this year. We need to win and big.

My feeling is that Lombardi has been 'ok' so far. A little low on completion % and over his career at Mich State too I believe. He is a big boy though w/ decent athleticism, I would like to see him run 5-10 times per game. In addition to that open up the passing attack more against lesser competition... our receivers are pretty solid. Waylee an Rat should have their way so long as we aren't 1 dimensional allowing them to stack the box and run blitz.

Defense absolutely cannot come out on their heels, playing against a RS Freshman FCS QB.

Decent preview including info on Maine:

I agree, Lombardi will need to use his legs a little more, he can do so and still slide or run out of bounds to avoid unnecessary hits. He's inconsistent but has made some nice throws too. Some of his picks were tipped or off the hands of receivers/TEs. They need to help him more. Can somebody besides Ritchie get open regularly? If Waylee can't run for 150+ yards against Maine, and we can't hold them to 20 points or less, we are in trouble against MAC teams.

Will Hammock ever release that info? Seems like he won't. He's like Mi-5 now.

Waiting on Rudolph to really show that year 2 progress. Hammock seems set on Travis. I’m gonna accept his evaluation for now, but he’s been so-so. Really would like more Mccray.

This is a game to really get Lombardi and the wrs going. Throw it 30+ times. Don’t worry about running it up. If this offense can continually put up 35 pts maybe it will give the defense some confidence.

I would prefer them running their normal offense then trying to throw it 30 times for whatever reason

With this defense throwing it 30 times might become their normal offense.

I keep wondering if Waylee was injured in the Michigan game and Hammock did not want to say so. He exited the game early and if he reentered it was only briefly before sitting for the rest of the game.

If he was banged up I hope it was minor and that he is able to play a full game against Maine and full games in our MAC season. He is a bright spot for the program.

Patrick Ricard FB for the Ravens played at Maine.

I still maintain, the only person I'VE ever heard of is Nick Di Paolo.

Patrick Ricard is a freaking monster for the Ravens. Probowl two years, going on three. But he played DT at Maine....and Hammock/Harbs moved him to FB, Hammock coaching for two years into the monster he is today.

Sorry NIU007, but that's not something that can be pinned just on Hammock. Not releasing / downplaying / or outright lying is now part of the standard playbook for every controlling college coach.
