RE: 2021 Football Game Time Speculation/Announcements
ABC chose Rutgers/Michigan for its 3:30pm game this upcoming Saturday, bumping Clemson/NC State to ESPN and means for the 2nd time this season the ACC will be shut out of ABC and OTA TV (9/11 the first). Meanwhile the Big 12 will get THREE games on (Iowa State/Baylor, who wants to watch that game???) Now that's a FOX game but why is Clemson/NC State not the noon game on ABC instead of Texas Tech/Texas? Texas lost to Arkansas this year! Texas has a big fan base? Last time I checked, so does Clemson. Texas had a game on FOX vs. G5 Louisiana this year! If Texas played Wilkes University it would probably be on ABC or FOX.

The ACC has a big TV problem with a bad Florida State team which the ACC normally counts on to bring in viewers. Will ABC or ESPN want to give this FSU team slots this year?

Sept. 30-Oct. 2:

Virginia-Miami is Thursday Sept. 30 7:30pm on ESPN. Boston College-Clemson is committed to ACCN. With Clemson and Miami off the board and Notre Dame on NBC, ABC is definitely off the board and unless ESPN wants Syracuse/Florida State or thinks Duke/North Carolina football has any interest ESPN likely won't take any ACC games either. Virginia Tech is also not playing. Matt has three ACCN windows (noon, 4pm, 7:30pm) and one RSN window.

Oct. 9 (No non Saturday games scheduled)

Notre Dame-Virginia Tech committed to ACCN.

Clemson does not play. Florida State at North Carolina if UNC stays in the Top 25 probably makes ESPN at least and has an outside shot at ABC (I have Boise State-BYU going to ABC and Florida State-North Carolina on ESPN at 3:30pm, they could be reversed). Matt has three ACCN windows (noon, 4pm, 7:30pm) and one RSN window.

I definitely take issue with
(1) how the ACC teams schedule OOC games (too many on week 2, not enough later in the season),
(2) how ESPN pits ACC games against others (e.g. Clemson-GT against, say, UGA-SC)
(3) putting too many of the best ACC games on weeknights

please make Cuse@FSU an early game. MattSarzsports.com thinks it'll be 3:30pm on ESPN2.

Wow, you don't hear a lot of people wanting early games these days.

When I'm tailgating on the road...the early games are much easier to manage.
I'm bringing my wife so....I have that factor too.03-lmfao

I'll drive over Friday night, tailgate, do the game and head home after grabbing a meal in Tally.

RE: 2021 Football Game Time Speculation/Announcements
Matt Sarzyniak does not say there is any official requirement for ACC teams to appear on ACCN. The Big 10 requires all teams to appear on BTN two times with at least one a conference game. Pac 12: "A school may not appear more than nine times combined in the ESPN and FOX packages. This is to allow the Pac-12 Networks to air at least one game from every school, assuming a school plays at least one home non-conference game." Boston College/Clemson was pre-selected by the ACCN before Monday's network choices. My assumption was at the very least the ACC wanted at least one Clemson game on ACCN to encourage subscriptions.

This week's "national" game (non ACCN/RSN) is Duke/North Carolina (ESPN2). Does the ACC believe that is their #1 game or are they using Florida State to encourage subscriptions? Does the ACC have a minimum requirement per school that isn't stated?

ACC scheduling is negatively impacted by the 4 year end SEC games.

That takes Clemson, FSU, GT, and Louisville out of a game that is important to the conference race.

What are you left with?

UNC, NC State, WF, and Duke by the end of November you are lucky if one is shooting for a 10 win season. How many season end games involving Syracuse or BC matter? On top of that we have VT and UVA the last week. This is what is stupid and this is not controlled by ESPN.

The first or second week in November should be devoted to intra league rivalries such as VT/UVa, UNC/UVa, NC State/WF, NC State/Duke, etc., etc.

Clemson in particular needs to move it's game with SC Big Thursday used to be the third week of October. It should go back to the third week of October or Clemson should threaten the continuation of the game. SC must have this game for their ego.
Louisville and UK could move to the same weekend.

That allows Clemson, Louisville, NC State, UNC, Syracuse, Pitt, VT, and UVa to play a meaningful game the last weekend of the regular season.

That also moves 4 games of interest to spots earlier in the year.

I've done a proposed ACC schedule before, why not post a 2022 ACC schedule the way you prefer it to be? Forget the already scheduled dates. Have SC/Clemson in October, etc. What would be your "rivalry weekend" games then?

RE: 2021 Football Game Time Speculation/Announcements
I would attempt to following the below template:

Week 0 - ACC school visits FCS school - ACC schools plays a P12 who plays Hawaii (UNC does just this in 2022)
Week 1 - ACC opens with ND, no more than 2 ACC teams open with a SEC game in Atlanta, Charlotte, or Orlando (Anyone in the league can open with ND, only Clemson or Miami need play an SEC school this week)
Week 2 - No more than 3-4 league games
Week 3 - 2-3 ACC schools play B10, B12, P12 schools (the new alightment with the B10 and P12)
Week 4 - Attempt to maxmize usually week ACC schools (WF, Duke, Syracuse, and BC week to be highlighted)
Week 5 - North/South Games (Miami, Clemson, GT, FSU vs Pitt, BC, Syracuse, Lousiville)
Week 6 - North/South Games, Lesser Big 4 rivalry games
Week 7 - Clemson/SC, Louisville/UK (The new Big Thursday on a Saturday or Sunday)
Week 8 - VT/UVa, NC State/UNC
Week 9 - Last OOC games, games with ND
Week 10 - Conference Play as needed, games with ND
Week 11 - Conference Play as needed, games with ND
Week 12 - FSU plays a division game, no more shitsville state u this week,
Week 13 - Clemson plays a division game, Miami plays a division game, UNC, NC State, UVa, and VT play league games.

All 15 schools? Give me a while and I will come up with three - 4 games each week and keep their 2022 contracts.

RE: 2021 Football Game Time Speculation/Announcements
Where would you schedule Notre Dame-Virginia Tech if you are the ACCN? According to Matt, the windows are noon, 4pm, and 7:30pm.

Speculated games for each window:

noon: Oklahoma/Texas, Maryland/Ohio State (confirmed)
4pm: Penn State/Iowa (confirmed), Georgia/Auburn (3:30pm)
7:30pm: Alabama/Texas A&M (8pm), Michigan/Nebraska

I guessed Florida State/North Carolina at 7pm on ESPN. The SEC can't play on ESPN vs. either SEC on CBS window and the Big Ten games likely wind up on either FOX, ABC, or BTN, so ESPN likely will be open for the top ACC game.

Georgia Tech/Duke, Virginia/Louisville, and Wake Forest/Syracuse are the remaining ACC games with one dumped to the RSN's (12:30pm).

The ACC will get either a 3:30pm game on ABC or ESPN. They are fighting Boise State/BYU for the ABC slot. They also have the 3:30pm ESPN2 slot and a 3pm ACCN slot (Notre Dame/Virginia Tech is 7:30pm ACCN and Georgia Tech at Duke is 12:30 p.m., RSN).

I assume the top game for the ACC is Florida State/North Carolina. Wake Forest is undefeated but is a small private school with a tiny alumni base.

After Carolina stubbed it's toe on Saturday and FSU slumped to 0-4, that game does not deserve to be broadcast on TV.

Agreed...even if Cuse and Wake both win this weekend...we aren't going to be on ABC

Another factor hurting this..is the optics of empty seats at the Dome and fans wearing masks

No ABC for the ACC this week. That's three weeks in a row. And one ACC conference game (Clemson-Georgia Tech) has aired on the alphabet network so far.

Which will be the ACC's top TV game on Sat. Oct. 16? Miami at North Carolina, Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech, or NC State at Boston College?

The winner of Pitt @ VT will control their destiny in the Coastal.
