Dumb hypothetical while we're waiting for the AAC to do whatever the AAC does
If Star Trek style teleportation became accessible for all people in our lifetime, how would that change conference makeups?

The airplane ( now known as the Teleportation Athletic Conference- TAC) conference can finally come to fruition.

You're thinking too small. It would dramatically change schools. You could live in Minsk and go to Star Fleet Academy in San Francisco.

The number of schools would be decreased. But attendance would be pretty good.

Depending on how commonplace teleportation devices are, it might kill the concession stand. If everyone has to go to the teleport to be transported, then OK. But if we all have our own devices, we can just zap back home or to our favorite wing joint for halftime and then back again for the start of the third quarter. And most importantly: relief for those who suffer from home bowl syndrome!

All I know is that real men set their phasers to kill, not stun.

UMass playing at Gillette wouldn't have been an issue if this were real.

Georgia Tech and Tulane would certainly try to stay in the SEC.

The London School of Economics would be offered membership in the SEC.

Ludwig Maximillian University would need to "settle" for membership in C-USA's new Gamma Quadrant division.

In a desperate move to stay relevant...Mike Aresco adds Romulan University with travel partner Vulcan University to the AAC. But given their superior intelligence Vulcan University tricks Aresco and the Vulcans keep all their TV revenue by doing a side deal with ESPN to form the Vulcan Sports Network ultimately forcing Aresco to take a pay cut.

I think schools would be running out to build 150-200k stadiums because way more fans would be interested in going to games. And with no travel expenses they could pay way more for tickets.

Elon Musk boring company can make this closer to reality. Then it would be all about cultural fit and everything from "cool kids" to "losers" type groupings/conferences.

The NCAA tournament could be played on the moon, where the gravity is only 1/6th that on earth.

Talk about "playing above the rim!"

The Klingon academy would lead the NCAA in penalty yards per season.

North Dakota State would be FBS, perhaps in the MAC.

Actually something I just thought about here.

You could have parking and the stadiums be nowhere near eachother. Put a lot out in the middle of nowhere and have the stadium in the middle of a major area (or vice versa). A lot less real estate would be required in a single area that way.

If there are transporters, there might be holodecks too, and if there were, the fans could watch (a realistic simulation) of the game before it's even played.

They could even "suit up" for a NFL game or NBA and play in it. It would just be a simulation, but the players would be the same, and nobody could tell the difference.
