John Thompson won two bowl games as head coach at Arkansas State. All about the resources baby!

(Tongue planted firmly in cheek)

That's the entire state of North Carolina except for App St (who couldn't win until big brother Marshall moved on, totally joking btw).

Seriously, App is the ONLY football program in the entire state that is a legit championship program. I think it's because they have so many D1 schools in the state.

UNC
NC St
Duke
Wake Forest
ECU
App
Charlotte

That's 7 FBS teams. That's not even counting the FCS schools in the state. If there was just 3-4 with one program being head and shoulders above the others then who knows what they could do to be honest.
NC has 7 Div 1 FCS schools too.

GWU
WCU
Campbell
Elon
NCAT
NCCU
Davidson

14 D1 programs.

More than that. UNCG is D1 non football.

I have less than zero enthusiasm about playing Marshall and only marginal about App. We've got OOC series scheduled with both and that's about as much as I care about playing them. The only school ECU is not currently in a league with that I actually did care about playing at one point in time was USM. I miss what ECU-USM once was, but Jeff Bower and Larry Fedora ain't walking through that door again.

Here’s a question for you. Who is ECUs current rival? You don’t have one in the AAC.

Realistically there is no actual rivalry for ECU. Having been independent for 2 decades we played a whole hodge podge of teams in the 80s and 90s. Only members of CUSA 1.0 we will still be in a league with are Memphis and Tulane and there’s nothing there with them. USM was the closest thing to a league rival but since it’s not regional now that we don’t play that’s kinda died. Obviously NC State is the rivalry ECU wants and there’s hate both ways but they don’t want to play.

Who wins in a fight: a Ragin Cajun, Mountaineer, Pirate, Trojan? We could get the Hilltoppers in our conference too. 03-lmfao03-lmfao
Cajuns are actually really nice and warm people. Fighting tends to be our final option.

Maybe so, but we generally on have Option A or Option B. Lol

14 D1 programs.
North Carolina has a population of 10.5 Mill. Meanwhile Louisiana has a population of 4.6 Mill. If you ask me, Louisiana has way too many public institutions of higher learning…but damn can we field some football teams!

D1:
Louisiana St.
Louisiana
Tulane
LaTech
ULM
Northwestern St.
McNeese
Nicholls State
Southeastern
Grambling St.
Southern

11 D1 Football teams

I came up with some numbers before I read your post. I think they make a good addendum to the points you made:

Louisiana: 1 FBS team per 929,800 people
North Carolina: 1 FBS team per 1,498,571 people

Louisiana: 1 D1 program per 422,636 people
North Carolina: 1 D1 program per 747,286 people

I know someone said, yeah but you have LSU, but that actually makes things worse for the other 5 FBS programs and 10 D1's as it spreads resources and fanbases way thinner. At least in NC the P5 schools are either not great at FB or their success comes in cycles. That leaves the door open for programs like App and ECU to be successful.

Speaking solely from a BASEBALL standpoint, partnering with ECU, USM and Tulane wouldn't be too shabby at all. And, USF came out of nowhere in the postseason last year.

I realize this is the 17th priority and will have no bearing on where the Cajuns wind up. But DAMN...that would be a solid league.
