21-22 Women's Hockey
NU ranked #2 in the USA Today Preseason Poll.

They return 26 players from its national runner-up team, including goalie and Patty Kazmaier award winner Aerin Frankel and Hockey East Co-Player of the Year Alina Mueller.

Wisconsin got 18 of the 19 1st place votes. NU got the other.

This team is loaded. Aside from fifth year Frankel let's not overlook the other seven players who decided to come back for a grad year including PK award top ten finalist Skylar Fontaine.

Great feed from SportsLive and great price (free). To get any content other than HE hockey you have to subscribe so I guess that means when the deal was negotiated HE paid more so fans, alums or prospective recruits could watch for free.

I wish that when the CAA negotiated for their sports carrier they had the same goals in mind.

RE: 21-22 Women's Hockey
Wishful thinking about the CAA doing anything like that.

I totally forgot about the game earlier tonight. NU beat Holy Cross 5-0 in the season opener.

Goalie Aerin Frankel made 20 saves in the win. The two teams meet Saturday afternoon at 2 pm at Matthews Arena.

The National Championship runner-up banner will be raised before the game.

I thought it was nice to see a freshman (Irving) contribute. I think it says a lot about our pipeline when a newbie can get on the ice with the number of returnees we have.

I agree. This team is so deep and it only adds to the depth.

I guess Alina Mueller is going to miss some serious time because she’s on the Swiss Olympic Team. So that hurts a bit, but not against Holy Cross.

RE: 21-22 Women's Hockey
Actually here's the story on Mueller according to USCHO...

Alina Mueller was injured at the World Championships, but is expected to be on the ice for the Huskies early on if not right away. Switzerland is only planning one camp in advance of the Olympics, so Mueller will get the bulk of her prep for the tournament as part of NU.

RE: 21-22 Women's Hockey
Last weekend was a surprisingly tough one for NU as they lost at BU 2-1 and at Providence 3-0.

NU is 2-2 on the season and fell to #5 in the latest USCHO.com poll (from #2).

They head to New Hampshire later today to face St, Anslem College.

RE: 21-22 Women's Hockey
It was sad to see the team lose last night but it was fun watching them this season. It's also been fun watching both of our hockey teams climb to the top of their leagues. For a long time we were "safety schools." BC and BU picked the recruits they wanted and we took what was left over. That has changed and what we have now is what I hope for from all of our sports........teams that most years will contend for championships.
