I am a bit lazy to do any actual work, so here's a link for the 2022 edition:

RE: US News and World report
This is interesting to me because Charlotte's last Chancellor would not participate in this--so USNWR ranked us the best they could. I think our new Chancellor did submit data, but I am not certain of that. Either way, we are always hurt by two metrics that I don't see changing.

We are the fastest growing university in the NC system. Our growth exceeds that of the other 16 universities combined. This keeps our acceptance rate higher than universities with low, or negative growth (looking at you ECU), and that penalizes us in the algorithm.

The other thing is graduation rate in 4 years. Many of our students work and go to school, so it often takes longer to graduate. In fact, we have lots of non-traditional students that maybe didn't finish college and went to work, started families, etc., and they come back to get their degree on top of that. I think this is probably not uncommon in major urban areas. Regardless, it hurts our numbers.

I don't think either of these items is worrisome, but I do wish it didn't ding us.

RE: US News and World report
US News Report displays an interesting piece of information that I do not think is being used to determine the ranking, namely the median starting salary of alumni. For FAU it is $48,000. For FIU it is $47,000. However, FIU is ranked 115 spots ahead of us. I would have thought that being prepared to enter work force should mean something.

Could also be dependent on the type of degrees more prominently awarded. I would assume an engineering heavy or nursing heavy school, although maybe not ranked as high, would likely leave students with a higher starting salary than a school that predominantly graduates teachers, art majors, etc.

Well, FAU is predominantly an engineering/business school.

I know it's hard for you to accept that FIU is a superior university, but I encourage you to read the rankings. There's a ton of information provided:

FIU: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/fiu-9635

FAU: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/flo...rsity-1481

Compared to FAU, FIU students have better test scores, the school is more selective, has a better social mobility ranking, has a greater frequency of smaller class sizes (and less lecture-hall style classes), and has a better 4- and 6-year graduation rate (among other factors). I'm not sure what else you want? The median salaries you mentioned are quite comparable, and as others have pointed out, these salaries largely depend on the distribution of majors graduated.

FAU is a fine school. I'm glad you take pride in it, as you should. But I don't think many out there realize that FIU is one of the better academic institutions in C-USA (and also an R1 university). FIU does a tremendous job providing a quality education to a very diverse student body. The name "International" in FIU is the focus of many jokes, but it is truly representative of the school. I take great pride in being a Panther.

Have a nice day.

I have no problem accepting that FIU is a higher-ranked school. Trust me, I can live with that. I have not offered a single doubt in that and I did not intend to.

Ah my apologies then. I read that as banter and decided to mess with an FAU fan. Cheers! 04-cheers

Oh, wait, your link only includes public universities. That's convenient.

Well, Tech is a public university with advantages/disadvantages differing from private schools. Makes sense to compare oneself to your peers, dosen't it? But, yeah, the overall ranking should also be included for reference.

I don't have the numbers, nor a link, but about a year ago I saw an article where Tech's graduates enjoyed the highest median earned income of any PUBLIC university in the state. Higher than LSU grads too. And, as I recall, higher than every private college too, sans Tulane. That is where the rubber meets the road, how are your grads doing in the real world?
