Here's the big questions.

Question # 1- ODU will be in one of these scenarios soon. If ODU goes AAC what other 3 schools do you want to go with them? Be realistic.

Question # 2-If ODU goes Sun Belt, what other school do you want going with you? Again,be realistic.

Question # 3- If ODU stays in conference USA, what 4 schools do you want to see leave?

Question # 4- Does Taylor Heineke keep QB1 for the rest of season?

Question # 5-Does he beat the Giants Thursday night for his first NFL win?

Question # 6-What from 0 to 100 percent, with 100 being absolute yes, is ODU's chances of beating Liberty this week?

Question # 7-Are you going to Liberty?

It'd definitely SUCK for basketball, but for football, I dont see much difference other than being with Marshall (likely AAC) and UNCC. If they went with us to the SB, Id be fine with that for football. Problem is, I love our basketball Monarchs and they deserve better.

The thing is, strength of football is meaningless. If anything it is a detriment. A weaker conference gets you to 6 wins if you have a mediocre team, and unfortunately, that's really all you're playing for. That and the pendulum will likely swing back anyway. There is no reason to pay all the entrance/exit fees to be in the exact same situation.

I think "it would suck for basketball but" is a phrase that should eliminate any conference move from consideration.

This is a good point, actually. Winning at least 6 every year is big boost for football, strength of conference doesn't really determine anything, and in order to have a shot at making it to an expanded playoff you would need to go undefeated, which with our typical out of conference schedule, would mean that we picked up a couple of good wins to set us apart.

There are a couple areas where being in a better football conference does matter. Money and fan interest. But if we are talking about the difference between Sunbelt and CUSA, I am not sure their will be a huge difference in those areas.

Edit: Forgot about the big one. Recruiting. Can you recruit at the necessary level in a crappy football conference? On the one hand, if you are going to a bowl every year that is a plus, but if you are playing a bunch of teams nobody cares about on Facebook, then that is a big minus.

I guess it isn't completely meaningless, but it also isn't an unthinkable notion that if we moved to the SB, those teams could start stinking and CUSA teams could be better. Even if FB strength was a major factor, that's a lot of money with no guarantee or big media deal to pay for it. And the travel could be worse? At least in CUSA most of the remote schools are in cities. The P5 could hire away their coaches and their programs could start going downhill. It isn't like SB schools have bigger budgets with higher salaries. It is more dumb luck that they are any better right now. That is what I meant when I said the pendulum would likely swing back anyway.

Oh, I am in no way advocating for a move to the Sunbelt. I am a basketball first guy and would absolutely hate that move.
