Those bigger guys were gassed beyond belief, especially in the second half. All the while, the coaching staff was imploring the offense to go faster, strike quick. Quick play is exciting to watch, but I think you gotta have a deep defense to keep the other guys out of the end zone. Doesn’t look like the defense is very good. Again.

You play fast to wear the other defense out...

If we play slow on offense against an SEC team that allows them to utilize their depth...You make them play 11 as much as possible.

When Alabama scores fast the starters are usually watching the game by the time the 4th quarter starts...If you don't give up first downs...Guess what...You play less plays.

You get tired when you continually allow the other team to covert.

The last quarter, when we were "rushing" with only 3 linemen, they were so exhausted it looked like standing up was becoming an issue.

Another heartbreaking win on Saturday. It's a pity your prayers weren't answered, on the Hail Mary.

Bowl win LOL-----I would rather have won -one of the 3---especially the team we were #2 behind on everyone's list

Gives up 50 points, 681 yards, 37 first downs to a middling sunbelt team.

Thinks defense needs to improve.

Bwahahaha.

ASU happens to be number 3 in total offense behind the Tigers and UCF. Held them pretty much in check until the fresh backup QB came in to start the second half.

When you have only played 2 games and one of them is against a nobody...

You don't know if you are good or the other team is bad...Still up in the air.

The time he entered was irrelevant. They were all but shut down until he did come in and then went on 4 straight TD drives. Same as Hatcher the week before. They bring in a fresh QB when the defense is worn out.

I was sort of laughing at that. On some plays, they barely made it up into their stance.

I am still on the concerned side of things as it seems the struggle was due to a better QB coming in than fatigue. When you mention 98 plays, 30 of them happened in ASU's last three possessions. Looking at the 2nd half it started like this.

ASU - 4 plays, 1:15, Punt
MEM - 4 plays, 1:30, Punt
ASU - 4 plays, 2:13, Punt
MEM - 4 Plays, 1:19, TD
ASU - 6 plays, 2:54, Punt
MEM - 5 plays, 3:12, Punt

So at this point in the 3rd there isn't a huge difference between the two. And with media timeouts the defense shouldn't be tired here. After this point Blackman comes in.

ASU - 4 plays, 1:23, TD
MEM - 11 plays, 4:13, TD (3rd qtr ends during this possession)
ASU - 2 plays, 0:47, TD
MEM - 2 plays, 0:15, TD

In this span ASU had the ball for six combined plays for 2:10 and there was a longer drive for us between their two possessions along with the end of the 3rd qtr. So the defense didn't spend much time on the field. Now like you mention I believe it was after this run that we saw a shift to a prevent defense which still didn't do much against Blackman other than making ASU use more plays to score. To me, the following group or possessions are where the fatigue argument would start to apply.

ASU - 15 plays, 5:47, TD
MEM - 3 Plays, 0:15, Punt
ASU - 10 plays, 1:56, TD
MEM - 3 plays, 0:58, Punt
ASU - 5 plays, 0:53, End of Game

JMO on things so far, until the passing defense is tightened up, a good QB will have a field day on us.

The last 2 Tiger possessions lasted a total of 1:13. One first down ASU docent get that final possession. Two first downs Maybe they don't get their final touchdown. The offense needs to be able to put the game away by sustaining drives.

All in all a very exciting game. That last quarter was the stuff that legends are made of. Fortunately it didn't end with a last second td to snatch victory from the Tigers like last decade.

So scoring on the first play of every single drive wouldn't put the game away ?

With only two games under our belts for this season, we had something to do with that. 50% of their offense was played against us.

So getting smoked by a backup Sunbelt qb clued the staff in.

Ok

I don't think we saw any of our blitz packages in either of the first two games.

I think that was by design.
