Marshall is going to be on the move.....
Hearing now that regardless of what the American does, Marshall is on the move out of CUSA. Option 1 is the American along with several other schools that Marshall has a "good working relationship with". Option 2 (And oddly, possibly the preferred option) is a move to the Sunbelt with those same schools and possibly a few more to form a tight eastern division. Marshall is working closely with ODU, Southern Miss, App State, UABa and a few others.... Either way it goes, Marshall is moving on.

Good Luck!

UTEP and Marshall should have never been in the same conference. We belong in the MW!

So, yes.

I have a ton of respect for UTEP and you definitely belong in the MWC. I think El Paso to Denver is about the same distance as El Paso to Dallas. Damn is Texas big.

There are Division I schools in California that are closer to UTEP than a number of other Division I schools in Texas.

RE: Marshall is going to be on the move.....
I'm thinking UAB, Marshall, ODU, and Ga.St. jump to the AAC... but I'd be fine with most anyone in CUSA, and most any SBC school... I think the AAC is going to bolster the East - not sure what the deal is with the "MWC raid by AAC" talk... I guess it's new markets, but the teams I noted would bring in big to decent Eastern markets the AAC does not have currently... Boise is a foregone conclusion (we've heard THAT before... think 'Texhoma 4 to PAC'... 03-drunk ) for the BIG XII, along with Memphis - which would leave 2-4 MORE spots for the AAC to fill... so, who knows - I'd like to see a few more 'basketball/ other Olympic sports' only members along with Wichita St., like VCU, Davidson, St. Louis, which could make a pretty decent hoops side of things.

...yep... ...and the EASTERN border of Texas is a LONG way from Birmingham... 04-jawdrop suffice it to say, I've never made a road trip to UTEP... although their stadium is cool, 'amongst the mountains'...

Last time Marshall and UTEP played in football.... Nov 28, 2009 or 11 years 9 months and 6 days or 4297 days.

And well I really like UTEP. But to be honest Marshall and UTEP or Marshall and anyone west of the Mississippi River should have never been in a conference with each other.

Las Angeles is 19 miles closer to El Paso than El Paso to Houston.

I've been to the Sun Bowl. Worth a trip at least once. Check Scenic Drive while you're there. Try the local food it's great. Be sure to walk around the stadium so you can see down into the valley at El Paso and Ciudad Juarez so you can see one of the most stark contrasts in standard of living you'll ever see in your life.

And think of Marty Robins and Feleena while doing so.

...cool! I want to venture out that way one of these years (my westernmost pin point to date is Altus, Oklahoma). Strangely enough, my Brother-in-law's wife lived in El Paso for awhile, and noted it's a cool place in general, but did note there are a lot of unfortunate situations of course at the border area. She isn't a sports fan, tho, so no good source of info in that respect... ...but have always heard the Sun Bowl is a unique and nice stadium to watch a game, heat notwithstanding, of course...

This is what needs to happen. The money in the AAC is not going to be nearly what it is now. It is time to stop chasing the pie-in-the-sky conference and settle into a sensible, geographically tight, competitive conference for the long run. Cut travel expenses to the minimum and just enjoy local rivalries that will form.

Going to be interesting to see where it all goes.

Yeah, I don't see those of us in Liberty camp interested in CUSA at this stage unless it was part of an East-West split. We are not desperate for affiliation these days.

Sun Belt is on its way up for sure. I’d be more confident if Texas St was nearing its potential and if UL Monroe was no longer a member (no offense). Also not crazy about South Alabama but meh.

I’d like to see Marshall, North Texas, Southern Miss, and UAB joining the Sun Belt.
