Your ex-president can go on banging pool boys. And Liberty can go on being an alt right propaganda online degree mill.

Marshall is working closely with ODU, Southern Miss, App State, UABa and a few others.... Either way it goes, Marshall is moving on.

This is what needs to happen. The money in the AAC is not going to be nearly what it is now. It is time to stop chasing the pie-in-the-sky conference and settle into a sensible, geographically tight, competitive conference for the long run. Cut travel expenses to the minimum and just enjoy local rivalries that will form.

Not to mention what is left of the AAC are their Warts and Ehhh who cares. You know Memphis is looking for a way out as fast as they can.

Ehhh Who Cares schools:
Temple
SMU
Tulane

Complete Dumpster Fires
Tulsa
USF
ECU (Minus Baseball, and what 20 programs care about baseball)

You also have to wonder where Navy and Wichita State will be when everything stops spinning again. I for one don't see them were they are, you have to think WSU AD would be blowing up the A10 and BE phone right now. As for Navy they could easily go back to being an Independent again.

Why some people are so enamored with the AACk I don't get.

Sounds as if that post was written by someone who expects their school will not be chosen by the AAC.

Memphis is iffy for the reasons their president listed in regard to the Big 12 invite.

Exchanging teams between conferences may be part of the plan. This will create the regional conferences we have heard about for the last 25 years. I could see USA or Troy going off to CUSA to bring UAB in. SBC will not have three schools in Alabama. There is still a possibility of a new conference being formed if schools resist the move to a new conference. In the end, this may be the best way to form the strongest conference and have one, or two, conferences remain.

The above plan brings in major TV and recruiting markets in Texas and Florida.
Solid programs in SMU and FAU. And UAB if they come in. Plus it pairs up schools and offers regional schools to reduce travel costs. And you lock up the SE states from VA (Maybe WVA) to Ga and Florida.

Pool boy jokes are fair game. Just dated. He was canned and we have as an institution worked to shift away from pushing politics to focusing more on our original mission.

As for Marshall, they should land somewhere better than their current predicament. Good on 'em.

I hope we stick together. Would be nice that through all this mess that our schools decided to work together thru realignment.

I've been told Marshall and ODU are working together.

Didn't Louisville announce that they were leaving the Big East before being invited by the ACC (thinking that they would be moving to one of the two conferences either way)? Are Marshall (and others) possibly looking at doing the same thing?

I think that Marshall and (Middle Tennessee, Western Ky or Southern Miss) would be great additions to the Sunbelt. If AAC only adds one or two teams, I think Sunbelt moves behind MWC in the G5 rankings.

RE: Marshall is going to be on the move.....
Thoughts:

I know everyone has an opinion, but looking at history and thinking through what the AAC might do, I would recommend: UAB/Rice for markets, academic, then Marshall and Southern Miss. 9 of the 12 schools played together in the C-USA with the other three USF/Temple/Navy.

That would allow the Sun Belt to grab ODU and call up JMU and switch Troy's division.

The C-USA could grab New Mexico St for the western division and finish at 10.

It seems "neat" and organized" to me, keeps a group of teams together that have history, consolidates the Sun Belt East division to VA/UNC/Georgia, and involves minimal FCS call ups.

It leaves the AAC at 12, the Sun Belt at 12 and C-USA at 10, and none of those feel overly bloated.

Not sure if the AAC go for Marshall and Southern Miss though. UAB and Rice make a lot of sense in my mind (and they could just stop there but I'm guessing they grab 4).

I think about the compilation of CUSA when it started in the late 90s... where it was in the mid 00s... and even surviving that.... but post the AAC exodus the conference is a shell of its former glory and stature. Considering media deals....I can't blame Marshall for looking elsewhere.

Not a bad scenario. If Marshall and USM are off the table, I would rather UTSA move to the Sun Belt than JMU. It’d keep TXST from being on an island and creates an Olympic sport travel partner for them. However, if UTSA moved to the Sun Belt in this scenario then CUSA might go after JMU instead of NMSU.

LOL sure. You make it sound like we are talking about SEC membership. ODU isn't interested in joining Sunbelt as it exists now no offense to anyone. if that's the case we don't need to leave CUSA because they are spread from TX to SC and i don't really see paying exit fees etc for just being in the same situation.

How would it be the same situation? One Texas school vs 3 (one in El Paso). Sunbelt would have App, GSU, GState and Coastal all closer than anybody in CUSA except Marshall and UNCC.
