The only local channels is Harrisonburg is WHSV. If you’re trying to claim they don’t cover JMU, that is incorrect. The Charlottesville stations cover us as well, as do the Richmond stations. Maybe you only get DC stations?
I’m just saying the population isn’t huge in the valley
I lived in Rappahannock County, and looking back I think you’re right it was WJLA and not WHSV.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have JMU on board in this new SBC proposed, I know the physical fan support is strong, I followed JMU fairly well and still do (couldn’t bring myself to support VT or UVA as a local team)
For the last 4-5 years I’ve mentioned JMU/Marshall/App/Ga Southern/Ark St/Troy/USM/Coastal with a few others as being a strong league of we could make it happen. These teams have fans in the stadium and would fill up opposing teams stadiums..
JMU fans fill up the stadium, and it’s a beautiful drive up 81 (or down). In fact 81 through VA until Front Royal is the most beautiful highway in the US.
JMU has plenty of merits, just “market” isn’t one. It’s not Atlanta.
Markets doesn’t drive what we love about CFB either, and the Belt made good adds while I was forced to make up reasons to get up for FIU, Charlotte etc in CUSA.
If App/Coastal/JMU/Marshall/Ga So are 5 of the 7 teams in the east of a future SBC I’m at every away game every year with an easy drive and good destinations to go to with real fans and an actual game day environment. ODU fans are fun and hospitable, so if they come along I’m ok with them too.
If this league happens, I think every team associated will benefit, Herd fans will be in Myrtle in droves and “invade” JMU/App/Ga So with 8-10k minimum
