And by scheduling, I mean some more reasonable P5 opportunities.

To make the math work on that, to move away from the $1.8 million paydays, it requires fans giving more money and buying more tickets.

I'm going to research the schedules of current CUSA teams to see how many reasonable P5 games they have scheduled over the last 10 years.

Man, we just can’t get people to meet in the middle on any of this.

If we are in this hypothetical world where we beat the number 2 team in the country and then lose to UTEP, that win doesn’t do a damn thing for us.

Nobody is going to remember Tulane kind of played Oklahoma close after this season. Especially if they go on to have a so-so season.

The body bag games seem to have the same conversation leading up to them every year. The result is very much the same too. People thought we could take a down Florida in the swamp. We could not. Tennessee was another, especially because of Georgia state. They turned a corner that season though, and we caught them at the wrong time.(I never want to see these games at that point in the season again btw). Texas A&M was the one game we played pretty decently. We moved the ball well. I wasn’t at all upset that time. Georgia was just a different beast. Teams like that can wipe the floor with you if a thing or two go wrong, and it just got out of hand early.

The problem with our team under Clark is it is not designed to come back from multiple scores down.(I’d say 17+) it is solid when it works, but it is based off of running, possession, and play action. When all of those things aren’t clicking, it’s not something we have a backup plan for.

2019 - Tennessee lost at home to a Georgia State team that barely finished over .500 that season. We could have won our game against them with the talent we had on the roster if we had been better prepared. Instead, we were in embarrassed.

IMO, our best P5 performance has been against Mississippi State in 2014. We held our own for a decent half against a team led by Dak Prescott that went on to beat 3 top team's in a row and finish the season ranked #11 in AP. People watching that first half actually thought UAB had a chance for the upset. We gave it away in the 3rd quarter but we got some hype for that.

I’m 2019 Tennessee won eight games. They won their last six straight and we played them during that part of the season. They were 5-3 in conference play. They were no where near as bad as you try to make them appear

Good ideas but that's preaching to the choir here. You can only squeeze your core of fans so much. They've already been asked to do a lot. At some point the fan base must grow in order to grow donations and ticket sales. So that means convincing people that aren't already fans. Winning CUSA games and titles won't get that done. It's up to UAB to win games that change public perception of the program.

I just said they lost at home to a 7-6 Georgia State team (didn't even mention they followed it up with a loss to a 7-6 BYU team the week after).

But since you mentioned their end of season run (when we played them)...here's the opponents they beat in the regular season games around us:

South Carolina (4-8, tough schedule for sure, but still 4-8)
Kentucky (8-5, but lost to 4-8 South Carolina and 6-7 Miss. St.)
Missouri (6-6, lost to Wyoming and 3-9 Vanderbilt)
Vanderbilt (3-9, lost to 4-8 UNLV and 4-8 South Carolina)

Meanwhile, we were coming off of a Conference USA Championship with a roster that everybody in C-USA was pissed we were even allowed to maintain and was 6-1 with our only loss at the time being by a single touchdown to a team that eventually finished with 9 wins. I think we could have and should have won that game. Yes, I know we were playing trashy teams during that start - but that's part of the not being prepared that I am talking about. We had a week non-conference schedule at the start that didn't set us up for success against Tennessee. I think you are inflating them way more than I was deflating them in my original post.

If you want to crown their ass, then crown 'em. But they were who we thought they were. And we let them off the hook.

RE: Frustrated? It’s OK!
If we get in the AAC and our pay gets a substantial bump, then maybe we can afford to play lower tier P5 teams for cheaper. At least we’re not playing 2 money games this year like Rice and others.

Hence a move to the AAC so that you can schedule better.

RE: Frustrated? It’s OK!
At the time last Saturday's game was scheduled, there was no reasonable expectation that UAB would be winning like it has been outside of the folks who work in Bill Clark's building. The contract was signed before UAB played a single game in The Return. If you were gonna take an L, better to take one big one for $1.8 million than two or three to add up to $1.8 million. Georgia of summer 2017 was not the Georgia of today, either. Kirby Smart had been there one season and they were coming off an 8-5 year in which they finished third in the SEC East and beat UCF in the Liberty Bowl.
