I know you are a strong Blazer fan and we all want to win our conference and aim for the goals we want to achieve. So I understand the sentiment you are going for here...but I'm not buying it lol

It is absolutely insane to say you would trade a road win against a #2 nationally television game on ESPN in front of 92,000 against us....for a win against UTEP. There isn't a single person in our Athletic Department or Coaching Staff that wouldn't do the same if they could. However, that situation is as hypothetical as a Georgia win this year to begin with.

No shock here. Smaug's view also represents the BOT. They would be ecstatic with UAB getting pummelled by P5 teams and just have UAB winning CUSA/diminshed AAC championships. That's would be the preferred ceiling for UAB in the BOT eyes.

Yes indeed. Astonishing to read ignorant comments such as Smaugs. How will we ever elevate this program with fans that think like that?

These are the people that would be happy with 15,000 REAL fans in the stands. SMFH. Nauseating.
My bad. I just like conference championships.

So do I but I like the idea of UAB being a big time program more. CUSA championships won't achieve that but wins over P5 opponents will.

It's ok. I know all that talk is bull**** anyway. It's a coping mechanism for the annual disappointment in these games. Only a fool would value CUSA games over nationally televised games vs marquee opponents.

I can guarantee that if most G5 fans read both comments, they would say the comment about G5 conference games being more important than P5 games is what is unbelievable. It's like an intentional denial of G5 reality. Beating P5 teams is what elevates your program, not conference championships. It was true for Louisville, Utah, Cinci, UCF, Houston, and Boise State as well as Appy, ULL, and Coastal. UAB will be no different. It's laughable to think otherwise.

You go ahead and find anywhere where I have said I want UAB to stay in CUSA. My loud opinion is that I much rather prefer UAB to go to a strong AAC instead of a diminished AAC. I have also stated for the lack of leadership in CUSA alone is enough to warrant a move to another conference in its diminished form or not.

So yeah I don't think the move to the AAC would be a earth shattering moment for the program and I stand by my comments. We gotta hope if we do get invited the payout is considerably more than what we're getting now because I hope for the day these body bag games is no longer a necessity in the future for UAB Football.

I have higher standards for the program, maybe you don't. To each his or her own.

I write them on games I attended in person. I wasn't in Athens. Put in just a little search effort and you'll find plenty of my opinions after a loss.

Oh I know. Just ******* with you. I just think you and a few others are trying to ignore a basic G5 reality. The P5 games are very important and Clark has flopped in that department. I wish it was different but it's the truth. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but you have to realize that probably 95% of other G5 fans would disagree.

I believe I've already said I wanted to win in Athens too, and was disappointed in our performance.

I said those things.

Which P5 games that Clarke has played in did you think we should have won? We aren't exactly playing Kansas, FSU, Iowa State, etc.
I am with you...i am disappointed that we don't have better showings in those games but we aren't playing teams that are on our talent level...they are on their own. I wish we would give up some of that body bag money to play a Kansas or a Duke but we cant unless people are willing to give more to the program to offset its cost.
P5 games do bring more recognition to the program especially when you win them but we have to get to the point that we aren't playing SEC games and maybe get an ACC or B12 or even a Vanderbilt team on the schedule instead.
Its a crappy reality for us currently.

I'm not questioning that you did. But to say you wouldn't trade a conference loss for a win at the #2 ranked team is nonsensical. That win would have done 10X more for our program than any CUSA title. What you're arguing is that you think adding trophies are more important than elevating our program. A very short-sighted attitude and one I hope Coach Clark doesn't share.

On paper we shouldn't have won any of those games, but the truth is we haven't even been competitive. We have played undisciplined, scared, lost the games within the first 2-3 minutes, and have been completly shell shocked in essentially all games against really good competition (FAU and App State included). It's not a good trend and makes us look really bad on national TV over and over and over again. Beating up cupcakes will only take us so far. We still appear far from taking the proverbial next step.

I would take simply SHOWING UP to one of these games as a victory at this point.

It's not a good trend and makes us look really bad on national TV over and over and over again. Beating up cupcakes will only take us so far. We still appear far from taking the proverbial next step.

I would take simply SHOWING UP to one of these games as a victory at this point.

This i would absolutely agree with. My point was more to winning those games. The teams we have played are just gonna be hard to win. I would take showing up though that is for sure.

RE: Frustrated? It’s OK!
All I say is that if were to beat a team like Georgia and then turn around and lose to UTEP to blow a conference title, I will be way more ticked than I ever would be about losing badly at UGA.

We have played undisciplined, scared, lost the games within the first 2-3 minutes, and have been completly shell shocked in essentially all games against really good competition (FAU and App State included). That's the flop. We need to eventually win some of those games but it's looking like we don't belong on the field that hurts our credibility. Tulane lost to OU but gained a lot of respect in the process. You lose respect when you look like the football Keystone Cops.

Their power 5 opponents were teams like Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, Pitt. They got smoked by 41 points at Michigan. They did go 1-1 against Penn State at a time when Penn State was pretty bad due to the scandal. But those were big games in UCF's development.

We need to look at P5 scheduling that way, which is not easy to do in our current situation for a lot of reasons.

I actually think this is a really good point. I know that the "body bag" games against the SEC pay well, but it doesn't do much to build our brand our our confidence in being able to beat big teams. Would much rather not get paid to play against some P5 bottom dwellers and have a chance to pull off a few wins. I think 17-20 year old kids would be more impressed with beating a team that plays in the same conference as Ohio State or Clemson than they would be of a team that gets taken to the woodshed by a top 10 team.

2019 - Tennessee lost at home to a Georgia State team that barely finished over .500 that season. We could have won our game against them with the talent we had on the roster if we had been better prepared. Instead, we were in embarrassed.

IMO, our best P5 performance has been against Mississippi State in 2014. We held our own for a decent half against a team led by Dak Prescott that went on to beat 3 top team's in a row and finish the season ranked #11 in AP. People watching that first half actually thought UAB had a chance for the upset. We gave it away in the 3rd quarter but we got some hype for that.

Yep that's the only game where we really were competitive or didn't blow the game in the opening 2-3 minutes. And that was in Clark's first year. Ancient history now.
