I am not even upset at the margin of defeat. UAB isn’t ready to beat a Georgia, and neither are about 125 other teams. I am upset because the performance of yesterday wouldn’t have beaten any of the decent teams in C-USA, either. That is what was disappointing. That is on every person, coach and player, who made the trip. It should tick them off, and I am sure it does, that they brought far far far from their best effort to Athens.
Essentially, this implies that the team that, agreeably, would be guaranteed to beat 125 other FCS teams had very little to do with UAB's performance on Saturday. Our guys were playing a team with 5* players sitting on the bench waiting their turn and 4* players are transferring to other P4 programs looking for playing time. They were bigger, faster, and just plain more bad ass.
No.
I have watched most of the other CUSA teams, Tulane and Liberty at least once this season. UAB isn’t beating UTSA, Marshall, FAU, Tulane, La Tech or Liberty with much more of what we saw Saturday. The best defensive player can’t be lighting up a receiver late on a play that gets called 100 times out of 100. Don’t care if Georgia was barking the snap count — can’t keep making first downs require 15 yards. Doesn’t matter if the secondary blew the coverages or coaches had them out of position, you won’t get the Grant Wells who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn for a half when we go to Huntington.
We played a bad game in addition to Georgia being great. A similar bad game won’t beat any of the above if they play even halfway decent.

In game #2 UNT lost to SMU 35-12.

RE: North Texas game
UNT is still going to have a dangerous offense. The question is whether they have made any improvement on defense. They could not stop the run the last couple of years.
UAB needs to go back to basics, manage the game and try to run for 300 yards. Get the bad taste of Georgia out of their mouths by playing physical Blazer ball. Hand the ball to McBride 25 times and see if he can Spencer Brown.

North Texas game
How the hell to you rack up 506 yards and only manage 12 points?

By running 96 plays, but going 0-4 on 4th downs, a few of which were in the red zone, and by only converting 4 third downs the whole game. Throwing two interceptions didnt help either.
They settled for field goals in the red zone early and didnt get a two point conversion on their lone TD.

There will be 24 penalties for 250 yards combined in this game for both teams.
Unless they surprise all of us and both teams become disciplined out of no where

It's bound to be chippy out there. There will be no love and a lot of frustration on that field.

RE: North Texas game
Jermaine Brown ran well against JSU, very explosive and fast. He didnt get many carries against UGA. Don't write him off as an important contributor out of the backfield to the run-game. I agree that 22 was very good Saturday, as was Lucious Stanley. We may have to run all 3 of em to control the game at North Texas and wear down their D.

No one is writing him off, he’s a weapon. He just ain’t what is needed to reach potential. Uab’s entire approach is built on a big back. We have one. Ride him, and use Brown creatively as a change of pace.

Brown got ragdolled like I said he would, and he never saw the field again against UGA. Why did we bring in Witherspoon from Miss state?
Brown was on the verge of going prep or Juco before we offered, now he’s our number 1 back?
We appear to have recruiting issues. When you have such success with a back such as Spencer brown, you should be able to dip into just about anywhere and find a sought after RB.

These next 3 games are going to be a good gauge of our team. If we can go 3-0, I will have confidence we can beat any team on our remaining schedule.

FAU is no slouch either. I think Tulane, Liberty, and FAU are pretty close to Coastal and App St's level.
I agree. We should have a pretty good idea of where we stand in the G5 after this stretch.

I just hope our offense plays more like the first game the rest of the season rather than the last game. The first game we executed some fun plays that I haven't seen us try before. We shouldn't be afraid of the short/intermediate pass anymore.

Our remaining schedule is full of teams a lot more like JSU than UGA.

Witherspoon is hurt, might be out for season. Brown earned his role with his performance in camp. Hopefully, McBride is nearing the point where the coaches believe he can carry the offense.

UNT’s RB DeAndre Torrey is 5’ 7” and 199 lbs. He must have been injured in the SMU game, but I can’t tell if he will play Saturday or not.

Should we be as unconcerned as we are about this game, knowing how bad it nearly went vs them in 2019?
