I'm really excited about Thomas. I think he is going to get us back to the type of RB the Tigers have had for the last several years now.

All of our backs including Clark, Martin and Weaver have run well. Obviously, Thomas has been off the charts great. I think our offensive line is much improved this year and doing a better of job of providing running lanes and creases that our backs have been able to exploit. Good job all the way around.

Dropping 8 and 3 rushing playing zone defense gives huge gains

Because we score so quickly the other team gets more touches and tires the defense out?

as someone said in another thread..I think we were early prepping for spread offenses...like we'll see against Moo State.
We have time to iron the wrinkles out between now and then.

On another note...was Asa Martin injured? I don't think I remember him being on the field at all yesterday.

*edit* thankful for the resurgence of Memphis football. I remember when we might get 600 yards of offense in 6 or 7 games...

Martin was the one who fumbled.

Two years ago MN barely played him because he fumbled a whole lot in practice
Last year we had to use him because of a lack of play makers
Fumbling is something he has to improve or he will not see the field. He has talent but on the same level as three or four other guys in the back field (none close to Thomas).

He played on special teams as well, he stayed on special teams for the entire game.

I was wondering if that's what we were doing .... Playing prevent since we were ahead by 3 scores, or just getting beat deep ... Didn't get to go; and listening to Wolo doesn't exactly give you a "feel" for what's happening there ...

Hopefully we'll see more pressure via blitz, etc. against State ...

Watched the game...listened to the radio feed.
There was like a 2 second difference. Wolo and Jarvo would call the play, then I'd see it happen in video.
I thought Wolo had said that Weaver fumbled...but then again...it is Wolo we're talking about.

B- if Martin is gonna put it on the ground, play folks that won’t

He played on special teams but didn't play RB after the fumble.

I checked some NCAA stats today but did not realize Memphis ranked so highly in so many categories. Encouraging.

It's exactly what was happening. We were dropping 8 but it was loose zone. No one took responsibility for WRs in their zone. That happens when so many are dropping, tendency is to think the other guy has him. Then, ASU switched QBs and began playing backyard fb. They were just slinging it and guys were finding the seams. Prevent is terrible by design - but this was egregious. Have to get that sorted. OTOH I was pleased with the D in the first half.

Don't give them first downs...

And guess what you play less plays.

Defense plays a lot of plays because they cant stop people.
