I understand the ratings for an INDIVIDUAL player will be different than his ultimate performance. That said there is a pretty good correlation of TEAM recruit ranking and ultimate performance. The high recruit rankings seem to always contain AL, GA, OSU, OK, FL, etc. and the on field results also contain those same teams.

I think he was making a joke that people say g5 can't compete with p5 because of depth, yet we out recruit them
I'd say our recruiting with IU is about dead even looking at those rankings. Which, when you think about it, is pretty amazing considering we're in the AAC and they're in the Big 12. I think we're maybe 2-3 years away from our first top 25 recruiting class, and I see that becoming the norm as long as Fickell sticks around and the Big 12 stays together.
i'm reading some of the recaps from IUs W over idaho and one article grades out their OL with a D and another article talks about how they were dominant from the get-go and tone setters. The one thing all the articles have in common is that Penix Jr. has failed to impress year to date. No real answers as to the why but i wonder whether the Black Cats should be preparing for two QBs and not just Penix.
Penix looked shaky the first couple weeks-- he threw 3 picks against Iowa and only went 11-16 for 68 yards against Idaho. In fairness they pulled him at the half against the Vandals. Hopefully the staff is more aggressive in Bloomington, I think if we blitz the heck out of the Hoosiers our secondary can make a lot of hay against Penix.
Indiana's defense and special teams shined against Idaho. I haven't been too impressed with our special teams unit, we've had a fumble and Bales has kicked it out of bounds in each game this season. We can't give IU the ball on stupid turnovers.
Unlike the first two games, Ridder will have to scramble and run for two touchdowns to assure a victory in this hostile environment under a midday sun. Here's hoping for a victory with no injuries going into a bye week preceding the highest profile regular season game in recent memory.

He’s what, 10 months out from a torn ACL? My guess is he’s still not comfortable having to stick in the pocket with junk around his feet.
Injuries in their secondary should really open things up for our passing game...
Quote:Indiana cornerback Christopher Keys is out for the season with an ACL tear, IU coach Tom Allen said at his news conference Monday.
Keys stepped up into the third cornerback position for IU because of an injury to fellow cornerback Jaylin Williams in IU's first game against Iowa, but suffered the injury in the Hoosiers' win over Idaho on Saturday. The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Collins, Miss., had impressed coaches with his length and his speed and the Hoosiers considered him a future starter at the position.
"I see him as my little brother," said IU All-American corner Tiawan Mullen. "I know he's out for the year, but I know when he gets back healthy he's going to have a special year (in 2022)."
Williams is expected to return this week to start along with All-American Tiawan Mullen and fellow cornerback Reese Taylor. Allen said defensive back Noah Pierre, who blocked a punt in the win over Idaho, will move from mostly playing safety to providing depth at cornerback.
The secondary has been the hardest hit position on the team by injuries. Safeties Devon "Monster" Matthews and Jonathan Haynes were both out last weekend. Allen said he expects Haynes to return and is hopeful Matthews will be back from an injury that kept him in a hospital in Iowa City for the weekend after the Iowa game, but he will learn more about Matthews status this week.
The secondary will be important for the Hoosiers in their upcoming game against No. 8 Cincinnati at noon on Saturday. Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder has thrown for 538 yards and six touchdowns in Cincinnati's first two games this season after throwing for 2,296 yards and 19 touchdowns and rushing for 592 yards and 12 TDs last year.
“Every year it seems like there’s a certain position that has a little more challenges than others," IU coach Tom Allen said of the defensive backfield. "That seems to be our spot this year. But guys are working really hard this weekend, and those guys will be huge this weekend."
