How far will/should teams fall?
OSU- should drop to the teens but will probably stay in the top 10

ND- should drop into the 20s. I’m not sure they’ll fall out of the top ten.

Iowa St- maybe 10-15ish

A&M- should fall out of the top ten.

Texas- should fall out of the top 25.

I would say not more than 3 feet. When a step is greater than that people get hurt trying to go down that.

This why we play the games.

And why we need at least an 8 preferably a 12 team playoff so this can be settled on the field.

...and who should move up??

Perhaps ND won't move down as much as Toledo will move up...

Toledo received no votes in last week's AP poll. They may receive a few votes this week.

Appalachian State received only one vote in last weeks AP poll, despite being ranked #28 in the Massey Composite. They may receive quite a few votes after losing @ Miami by 2 pts in the closing minutes of the game.

In terms of non top 25. Michigan and Mississippi State both look real solid. And I didnt bring up Arkansas because they better be ranked after tomorrow.

They just don't penalize teams for bad wins. ND beat FSU by 3 who just lost to Jax St. And Toledo by 3 simply because the QB doesn't understand the clock rules. Toledo could have iced the game and kicked an 18 yard FG at buzzer.

We are not a top 25 team and belong nowhere near the top ten right now. We will lose next week and we will drop like a stone.

The App State game also had a weird ending. They were almost within FG range to take the lead, and had a couple of downs to to go and 40+ seconds on the clock. I didn't see the game, but was following it on CBS gametracker, all it says is that the QB took off running the ball with 40 seconds to go, and that that was the last play in the game, even though it wasn't 4th down.

"what the bleep?"

RE: How far will/should teams fall?
In seriousness Oregon should move up to about 5th and Ohio State, who clearly have issues on defense, should drop to about 8th or 9th. They have to win their way back in the playoffs. Oregon needs to be moved just on the edge of a playoff spot with the opportunity to play into a spot with another big win, say UCLA in the 4th weekend of October..

I'm betting Ohio St. and Notre Dame don't fall very much. That's why we need a 12 team playoff.

Iowa St. will drop 6 or 7 spots. A&M will drop a few. Texas probably drops out after a bad loss.

Yup - Notre Dame doesn't look like a top 25 team at all at this point.

I always thought teams should rise and fall a lot more early in the season. Aren't recent games more indicative of results than recruiting rankings and prior seasons. Ohio State and Clemson for example should have fallen a bit further and teams like UCLA, Kentucky, and Pitt should be way up.

One reason to dislike preseason ratings, or at least rate from scratch the first few weeks.

But the voters get stuck with their preseason vote and can't admit they over/under rated teams.

Exactly. It’s ok to readjust your priors. Just because a team was at 10 in preseason, it’s ok to drop them if they look underwhelming.
