This power 5 reference today by Rutgers was crazy this morning
I am watching game day and they had clips of coaches
What they were doing when the planes hit the towers.

They went to whoever was coaching Rutgers
and this nutball says.

“We were the closest power 5 school to World Trade Center.

What does power 5 have to do with anything
Related to the twin towers being destroyed

For your reference coach : NYU would
Have been the closest college.

Note # 2. Based on Rutgers record you are
Not power anything.

Pace University is actually the closest undergraduate institution.

That said-completely agree that it’s a ridiculous thing for Rutgers to say.

What an asinine thing to say. Total idiocy. I'd wager those awesome young West Point cadets just 65 miles north up the Hudson River were affected much more than those pampered kids at Rutgers. Those cadets' lives were changed drastically that day because they knew they'd likely be going to war.

On 9/11 I was living just 10 miles from the Ft Campbell Army base in Kentucky. My wife was an elementary teacher at the school right up the road from the base. Believe me, her kids were terrified and worried about their moms and dads and the teachers who's spouses were service members were terrified.

Pretty sure Rutgers was part of the Big Least when 9/11 happened. That isn't Power 5.

I agree, this was a ludicrous statement. It really occurred to me today that GameDay is pointless. Why do we even watch it? They talk about the same dozen teams over and over. In today’s installment there were several segments on Oregon and Ohio State. Why? Talk about some other games being played. Talk about other teams. I think I need to adjust my Saturday morning viewing habits.

As is Pace. But I guess you’re right, King’s is technically closer to ground zero. That said-King’s is kind of “non traditional” hence why I didn’t consider it.

Anywho, silly argument. :)

He probably said “BCS” not Power 5, I don’t remember anyone using the term Power 5 back then

ESPN is going downhill. They don't update stats or provide gamecast updates very well anymore either unless a Top 25 team is involved.

No kidding. How bad is this view on the ESPN website:

Past couple weeks that were coaching
A team back in 2001.
