RE: Is a UConn/Big 12 marriage a possibility if they expand to 14?
When I said “You don’t see these conversations about UMass or New Mexico State or Notre Dame”, I meant nobody asks why they continue to play FBS football.

People ask why UConn continues to play FBS football because UConn has made it quite obvious that they don’t care about FBS football. Which is fine. To paraphrase a UConn fan on this thread: “We’re not Texans. There’s more to life than football. We are a basketball school.” True, true, and true again. But that only makes it more curious why they are continuing to field an FBS team.

I can't imagine the B12 isn't jumping through hoops trying to wedge UConn into their conference. I mean, who wouldn't be? But I'd hold out for the SEC if I were UConn.

I am a Uconn fan and realize the Big 12 wanted football, and highly doubt they even know we exist. They already have Kansas and don't need another. Uconn needs to higher a young coach at 2million and give him decent coordinators. Play 2 or 3 money games a year and collect 3 million. Then play 2 mid range P5 teams...and the rest are winnable games against the bottom 100. If lucky 6-5 and can work upward from there. Maybe in 10 years be something viable in football again. The rest of the sports are fine in the Big East and Hockey East.

I also like being an independent because we can schedule at least 4 regional P5 games a year (I believe starting around 2026 it will be closer to 6 P5 games a year) as well as Army yearly.

With the exception of WVU and Kansas, nobody really interests me in basketball in the Big 12, and WVU and maybe BYU are the only teams that interest me in football.

I personally do not believe that the Big 12 will be perceived by the media as on the same playing field as the other major football conferences. However, I do think it will be perceived as a major league in basketball.

With that said, UConn was not interested in the Big 12 this time around (likely due to 90%+ of the fan base being content).

However, should UConn be interested 2-3 years down the road given that they were interested 5 years ago and were probably 4th favorites back then? Also, would the Big 12 be interested?

Does it make more sense for UConn to wait for inevitable SEC and B1G raids of the ACC in a decade by keeping their current setup or joining the Big 12 if offered?

Your AD would crawl across broken glass for a Big 12 invitation. UConn acknowledged reality and gave up on chasing power conference football. The only conference “offering” UConn will be the CAA not that I expect the Huskies to accept.

But if the CAA chooses to expand southward, there is always the NEC!

If UConn will hire a serious, big-$$$ HC with serious, big-$$$ assistants, then I will take back everything I’ve said about them not-caring or not-trying in football.

They better as I feel this is the last shot at getting this hire correct. Administration has failed the past decade . What has been done to the program is Enron level criminal. Money spent and a low lvl div 2 program to show for it.

UConn should really be figuring out whether the Colonial - an FCS power league - or the Patriot League is a better fit for football moving forward.

No - UConn bit themselves when they thought they were better in the NBE. Their basketball is average and their FB is headed into extinction. They want no part of Texas so they can live their future in the BE for 4 million dollars a year. One day they might overtake Nova for a year and win a conference championship again. The school admins and the fans are happy living in the past and playing in the Garden for a week out of the year in a conference that lost its big schools in Syracuse, Pitt, WV, ND, and L'Ville. No P5 conference will touch them now. Good luck on the future. 07-coffee3

That’s a tough call. Either join up with Villanova or Georgetown. My guess would by CAA.

That's probably the most likely. Would put them back into a football conference with Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine.
