Boise and Memphis still on Big 12 radar?
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...additions/

My guess I either Memphis or Boise is offered they would jump in a heartbeat to B12. With over 6 months for the B12 to decide about Memphis. I doubt Boise St has such a difficult buy-out and could join with BYU in 2023.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

My guess is whenever a new school officially says when it will start play in the Big 12 is when TXOU leave. The leaving schools will say they distributed earnings are below what they agreed to with the new addition(s), say the conference breached the GOR and then negotiate a discounted exit fee.

I take the discussion about more members to mean we aren't considering adding until after 2024. Like invites won't even go out until after 2024.

They’re on deck (same with SMU and South Florida) in case the Big XII losses additional schools (doubt it) or the tv networks give them the green light.

At this point, the Big XII can wait and see how the landscape changes once the Pac-12 and Big Ten renew their tv contracts. Those schools are not going anywhere so why the rush. If you’re any of those schools, keep the momentum going and just keep winning games in FB and BB.

Like it was yesterday.

That opened the door for C-USA to invite Marshall. We accepted on Friday/24th October 2003. That was our escape hatch out of the MAC. I really thought we had finally made it. I had no illusions about the BCS, but I had no idea we were just treading water.

But why wait??? The Big12 has shown strength and decisiveness so far,so why go back into slomo mode when already know what you're going to do?

Maybe staying at 12 is the plan. In which case, they’re not going back into slo-mo, they’ve simply enacted the agenda they wanted and now are ready to move on.

Naw. It's preordained that Memphis cannot, will not ever be in a conference with Marshall or UAB again. 05-nono05-nono04-chairshot

They will wait to see how 23-24 season goes in terms of TV ratings and on field performance...

...if the B12 has a good year and the new match-ups (TCU v BYU for instance) end up generating good numbers, there will be room for growth.

The B12 would be smart to pull in a Mountain West school to weaken that conf. Memphis I believe is #13 no matter who #14 is.

I'm still a skeptic on Boise St. I almost feel USF brings you just as much.

Whichever. If we lose Boise we can take UNT.

There’s no rush. They just added four schools. Once the new tv deal comes up then they can look at other options if the money is good. It’s not like Memphis or Boise State are going anywhere. No other P5 will be interested.

Long term. I think Dodds read the same information as McMurphy but as something imminent, rather than as Hocutt put it, 8-10 year process, meaning the distant future around the start of the next decade. By then most of the principles will not be the same then. Also Colorado State's fall shoudl be a reminder the order shifts in five years.

Also it was not just Memphis and Boise State, but also SMU and South Florida being considered when they decided on the four they selected.

Colorado State not being on the list has people there talking about what they need to do to right that, much like South Florida people are talking about being better after being passed over in favor of UCF.

You do it now so that the newbies can keep their momentum going by recruiting as a P5 members while also allowing them time to make whatever facility upgrades necessary.

They're planning to go to 14, to increase inventory, expand the number of conference games, and narrow the financial gap of losing TX/OU. But the current contract is capped at 14 teams, so until TX and OU actually leave, they can't add 13-14.

So is it the Texas/Oklahoma schools with BYU and Boise in a Western division?

Or the Texas/Oklahoma schools with Memphis and UCF in a Southern division?

Well played. That suggests the decision would be made by the existing Big 12 members (minus OUT) and the four who have not yet officially joined the league.

I expect we will have a much better picture of the timetable we are dealing with soon. While folks are talking about 2024 and beyond, I think what's going on with this realignment is like a runaway freight train at this point. There will be tremendous pressure to finalize it as expeditiously as possible for the six schools already involved.

I can understand the urgency of schools not already in that group to float their names as additional candidates to move up in the pecking order before it's too late. But for the Big 12, they should no longer feel any sense of urgency to expand further.
