I believe someone already mentioned we don't want to play HOUSTON UFC OR CINCINNATI unless we can beat them. The problem is right there, we've gotta play them and beat them or give any ranked team a good game.
Tulane isn't afraid to play and their 5 point loss to Oklahoma didn't hurt them.

04-cheers

How's that? We seem to be mentioned along with them in all these stories - and first in most of them. If market size/city size matter - like we were told, then that makes no sense.

1. No guarantee that the B12 expands further
2. How many times you gonna buy the 'we're next' story?

I'm not necessarily buying that we're next. (I'm not buying we're not either.) I just want to know why you say it looks like Boise is next. You said that like you had a reason.

RE: We are losing 3 top tier opponents
As current Big XII members (Kansas, Okie State, Baylor, TCU) eventually migrate to the other Power 5 conferences seeking to have 16 members like the SEC, Memphis will eventually be invited into the Big XII. The problem, however, is that it will look like the old AAC or any combination of former Group of 5 affiliations.

At that point, one scenario is as follows. The Power 5 will eventually become the Power 4, consisting of 64 members, and will break off from the current governing body, the NCAA. Those 64 members will play for the national championship and garner the super great majority of tv money and the top players in the nation. It will, in essence, be a pipeline or feeder into the NFL. Football will be played at most of the remaining schools but not with the emphasis seen heretofore.

Another possible alternative would entail 5 super conferences of 16 teams each. That would be a total of 80 schools who would still form their own governing body. In this scenario, it is possible Memphis would be included. This alternative would likely depend upon whether the top 64 want to share the huge payout with an additional 16 members.

Obviously, I have no inside information but my guess is probably as good as anyone's.

But we’d be 2nd on the list and our insiders would finally be correct

I think if the R1 comes through we jump Boise. All the schools taken ahead of us were R1.

Both alternatives have merit .... Good thoughts ...

I still wonder if there might not be a "FOX vs ESPN" war brewing ....Would conferences split between the two networks as far as Football goes ???

That being said, I was surprised that the ACC aligned with the BIG and PAC12 ...

In our current situation playing OU does us no good.

If we play OU and lose and lose one game in conference but win the conference championship game, likely a coin toss if we get the access slot.

Play ASU and win and have 1 loss in conference and win CCG we definitely get access slot.

Play OU and win and go Undefeated...We still only get the access slot...We aint getting into the playoffs unless OU only has 1 loss and probably not even then.

Yes. In our CURRENT situation. As soon as those teams move to the Big12, people will say we play too weak of a schedule to be ranked. Boise will start out ahead of us every year without question (as an example).

RE: We are losing 3 top tier opponents
Memphis has a perfect template to get into a New Years Six bowl and a wild outside shot at a playoff position, much like basketball was in the CUSA. We have a far better chance today in this conference set up to do so.

1) Schedule one out of conference P5 - win that game
2) Other out of conference games - win them
3) Win the conference, go undefeated and win the Conference championship game

Do this and today the probability is exceptionally high you will be in a NY6 game.
Do this and your preseason ranked in the top 20 you are in a very high probability of being in the playoffs

Add one more P5 team and lose and your out.

The template is there as we stand now, will need to be re-worked after those three teams leave.

Jeez. Small time thinker. Play crap teams and hope we win. Let’s go to the sunbelt and maybe we can win them all. Meanwhile, the games provide almost zero entertainment value.

Exactly. And now if Coastal or App St go undefeated they get the NY6 Bowl because they are the current darlings of G5 & will play a tougher OOC schedule.

But it's not just OOC schedule that counts. It's TOTAL schedule. And that's where being in the CURRENT AAC is advantageous. Our 1-loss team will have a better overall profile than their 0-loss team.
You guys are too obsessed with the OOC that you miss the overall, total picture.

Agree with all, except bolded. UCF was preseason top 20-ish and got left out. Will be interesting to see how they finagle Cincy this year to leave them out.
