I don’t believe that.

Its obvious Phillips, Warren and Kliavkoff still consider The Big 12 a P5 conference.

If the majority of commissioners from the other P5 conferences say it’s a power conference, it’s a power conference.

In that case, weird how the "Alliance" didn't include the non-OU/UT Big 12 schools.

Hope you grab a straw someday friend. I root for underdogs.

I'd say it's some of both. Priorities or lack thereof by past leadership hurt both.

Yes….
Cincinnati and Louisville were both in the Missouri Valley along with Memphis, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Iowa and Iowa State

Football hasn't been consistent enough.

Really? 8 or more wins every year since 2014 isnt consistent enough?

No. USF went from FCS to the Big East (then a BCS conference) in 2005.

UConn did as well.

UCF is going to be a member of a league that will be a full power in men's basketball and baseball. Football could be the best "tweener" football league ever — and will offer various trappings of a power football league. There will be lots of quality academic programs in the future Big 12 (as to the future newcomers: UC, UH and UCF offer med schools and BYU is a top-notch/top 100 academic institution overall).

So if this is "as good as they're going to get" ... I would think UCF fans are ecstatic.

...yes... the revamped BIG XII will be fine... most ALL of these programs have had at least a few awesome seasons in football (yes, even KANSAS), and are pretty stout overall programs... when the playoffs expand (it will - too much $$$ to be had), the BIG XII will definitely have an auto bye...

Lovely when someone just wants something to happen so bad that they will ignore all evidence to the contrary. Yes, B12 is P5 in name only. They will be considered as much by P4 but in a separate tier. They will likely not playing any P4 members and will earn substantially less than the P4. But keep telling yourself something otherwise. Either way, these 4 teams are in a better situation than their current one.

Aside from 2020 (asterisk year by the way), it's usually Kansas + everyone else. Teams like Iowa State and Texas are lauded each year only to struggle in NCAAT. Oklahoma made the Final Four in 2016 and loss by 50-60 points?

Didn't TT play UVA in the Finals a few years ago and Baylor won it last year? Those are certainly more relevant than what a team that's leaving did 5 years ago.

Rutgers was playing the equivalent of D-1AA back in the day

Several examples of teams out west who upgraded too

But IIRC I don't think they were ever actually classified as FCS. They upgraded their scheduling after the split went into effect.

Correct. Temple was in the same boat as Rutgers but both upgraded before the 1-A/1-AA distinction.

Keep in mind that UConn was already in the BE so they just had to add scholarships and build the Rent. This is similar to how USF went into C-USA automatically while UCF had to wander the desert from 1-AA independent to the B12 via 1-A independence, MAC, CUSA, and the American.

ACC sans Clemson and the PAC are garbage Power leagues. They may have “brand” names like USC and FSU/Miami. The product on the field isnt all that.

A much better $ituation. That$ all that matter$.

You may not be familiar with IWULT's unique brand of sarcasm. It doesn't always translate well through text. Commissioners don't decide these things. If that were true, Aresco would have actually been able to back up his "P6" claims.

NCAA autonomy means increasingly little when the NCAA is in the process of divesting itself of power. Those of you who think a tweener Big 12, sans OU/UT, will be treated as a power conference when the next phase of the CFP rolls around have not closely followed recent history. You're in for a rude awakening.

Oh I understand completely...you have tiers...SEC and Big Ten on one level...ACC & Pac 12 nice drop off...small drop off from the ACC & Pac 12 to the Big XII...Another huge drop off from the Big XII to the current now Go5. As a follower conference realignment and on this board for well over a decade more than understand ...hell the school I follow went from C-USA in 2002 to now the ACC...a total of basically 4 different leagues in a 11 year period.

It is what it is....I’m just laughing at the narratives on here...07-coffee3

Didn't TT play UVA in the Finals a few years ago and Baylor won it last year? Those are certainly more relevant than what a team that's leaving did 5 years ago.

Tech played in the national title game a few years ago and West Virginia and Oklahoma State are almost always Top 30-ish. Bringing in Cincy, Houston and BYU. Baylor is defending champ with an elite coach. LOTS of quality hoops programs in the future Big 12.

I have no idea if Scoochpooch is suggesting the Big 12 will not be "power" in hoops once UT and OU leave. If he thinks that ... that's a head-scratcher.
