I think we could put the theory that the Belt isn’t taking back any members who left to CUSA to rest. Haven’t heard much smoke around WKU, MTSU, or UNT, but that could change.

Does MTSU still have an athletic program??? I haven’t heard from them at all in a few years.

I agree about basketball. A few of our posters have made too big of a deal out of this. One bid league is one bid league. At the end of that day, Marshall, like most of the Sun Belt, is a football first school.

As for soccer, I disagree. No, it's not going to be a deciding factor, but we do have to find a good conference to place soccer in. Just joining a ****** conference in soccer isn't going to cut it. I'm not sure the MAC cuts it either to be honest. I would like to see the Sun Belt start soccer (I'm ok with the conference having to grow and mature if its the conference we are going to be in for a long time.) It also appears that both of the GSU's are making solid investments in soccer. If not then I would like to see us either stay in CUSA as an affiliate or possibly join the ACC or Big East as affiliates.

Obviously if that's the only hold up then we will stick soccer wherever we need to in order to make it all work, but we will try our best to find a really good home for the soccer program.

Last, I am also watching Coastal game right now and feel the same way. Watching the Sun Belt on ESPN makes me want to join the SBC that much more.

Not that the Sun Belt will make it a priority, but candidates with mens soccer besides Marshall are JMU, Liberty, ODU, and UAB. If App. State brings back their program, JMU (assuming UAB to the AAC) would make the most sense to bring in a football first program with a respectable mens soccer for the Sun Belt to bring back mens soccer as a secondary goal without affilates members and it doesn't appear to impact Title IX for the conference or App State. All your soccer programs would also be in thr SBC East so not a lot of major travel.

JMU doesn’t make the most sense to add, men’s soccer notwithstanding.

LOOOOOOORRRRRDDDDDDDDD

You just wait until the JMU fans see this comment. They think they are the next add to the ACC with Notre Dame. Sun Belt would be blessed if they lowered themselves to the point of joining the SBC.

I would ask a JMU fan to explain why adding them over ODU or Liberty makes sense.

JMU football was mediocre to blow mediocre until everyone else left IAA. They got extremely lucky and won the 2004 National Championship. On the way to that title they had to have 2 comebacks over Lehigh and Furman. Both games ended 14-13 but both Lehigh and Furman had the lead at some point in the 4th quarter.

They didn't win another title until 2016.

Ive never understood the appeal of JMU. Besides ODU is there anyone in IA that has even a simi rivalry with JMU.

Maybe Gill was just watching Southern and Texas State. I can't believe FAU/FIU are being considered for the Belt but stranger things have happened.

The commissioner makes visits to members games. He was visiting TxSt during an away game that is across town from App's game with Miami.

Not unusual.

Middle Tennessee is the most irrelevant program in Conference USA and hasn't been relevant since they beat Georgia Tech and then Arkansas State in a bowl game. Their attendance across all sports has dwindled exponentially. They were regular Vic Bubas Cup winners in the Sun Belt, but their leadership is so bad that they have become the Idaho Vandals of the Southeast. If CUSA collapses and there aren't 8 schools left to form a new conference, I could see MTSU going back to 1-AA like Idaho.

I can't imagine any other FBS conference wanting North Texas unless it's the MWC or WAC. Kaff, kaff.

From JMU Gameday:

Anonymous sources close to decision makers say a move by JMU, Marshall, ODU, & So. Miss to the @SunBelt is highly likely. Troy would move to the west and the Sun Belt East would be:

JMU
App State
Marshall
ODU
Coastal Carolina
Georgia Southern
Georgia State

STACKED Conference

I was listening to the MTSU v VT game on the radio while driving yesterday. Their strategy is still very personal foul/cheap shot dependent from the sound of it.

I actually could see the MWC adding UTEP, N. Texas, and UTSA if the AAC takes Rice and Boise goes Big XIV

More and more smoke around a 14 team league (for football). We're up to what, sources from 4 schools saying similar things?

It feels like CUSA is about to get killed off with the Sun Belt and AAC being in a staring contest on if the Belt can pad their resume or the AAC poach other teams first. Either the AAC is going to pick the top teams out of the Sun Belt and CUSA or the Sun Belt is going to shore those teams up first and then AAC will be back to Big East circa 2012 made up of teams in big markets that nobody wants.

They have womens basketball and that is now in trouble.
The were the designated 1st place pick preseason EVERY year by the conf office. Always have the preseason poy. If she walks and chews gum same player is always named poy at the end.
However that sport is now in trouble. Transfer portal this year was very brutal to them.
