Exclamation Bowl games being canceled
The Redbox Bowl, PAC12 sixth team v B1G seventh team, has been canceled due to not finding a TV partner for 2021. Ultimate result will probably be 2 less G5 schools will be bowling. The bowl has been played since 2002 and was the first bowl to cancel last season. It started as the San Fransisco Bowl then changed to Emerald Bowl, Fight Hunger Bowl, Foster Farms Bowl.

Maybe I was leaving it open ended for other games to be listed here if others were to cancel. 03-idea

I wouldn't want to watch a bottom of the barrel Pac-12 vs. Big 10 myself. No wonder no one picked it up for TV.

A top-level G5 matchup is way more interesting.

Now a one-time bowl game is being added so all 84 eligible teams can go bowling.

Be interesting to see where they play it.

SF is an awesome place to go for a weekish up to a monthish. Too poor to live there, but the visits are great.

RE: Bowl games being canceled
My in-laws live in Hermosa Beach, south of LA and tell us daily we only hear a small fraction of what’s going on. Went to CA in June and before that, in 2018. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s changed in a very bad way. Can’t candy coat it any more. Wish it weren’t true, but it is. And SF is worse than LA area. My brothers company headquartered in Napa Valley and he had the go there regularly. Said it’s a no go zone now unless you have a Kevlar jacket, shatterproof glass on your car or you don’t mind having your car stolen or broken into. I get all the great things to see and do but why put yourself at risk. You wouldn’t willingly go into no-go zones in N.O. Wouldn’t advise it in SF. It’s far more reaching there than N.O.

I have friends that live in Hermosa beach and I've not heard any of that. They seem to enjoy living there pretty well.

Any time someone says "No Go Zones" i know absolutely they just watch too much TV.

I've been around real "no go zones" in SE Asia and even in America (Lived in NOVA and worked in the District when the DC Police blockaded Trinidad for a few weeks). SF and its neighborhoods don't even closely apply. In fact, its laughable.

RE: Bowl games being canceled
Honestly, whenever anyone craps on a city I just assume they aren't used to anything more than a suburb and a 20 minute wait at Sunday's strip mall Eggs-N-More brunch.

People in general kinda suck. Cities just have a lot of people in close proximity. If you're not used to the quirks of people then cities aren't for you. The burbs spread out the awfulness that are humans.

I have been to SF once back in 2016, for about a week. I was not particularly impressed and definitely wouldn't want to live there, but it wasn't horrendous. The Valley (Fresno/Bakersfield,etc) is the worst part of Cali - a lot of that area is being depressed by the coastal cities' policies. I kind of like LA, but imo Sacramento is the nicest big city in the state, though I've not been to San Deigo.

The Southeast (and Texas) bests all though.

I lived in Bakerfield for 4 years and it is really not a bad place. Unfortunately, highway 99 is the main route through town and it passes through some areas that are not so nice, so if that is all you have seen of BAKO, you missed the city. We lived at the base of Kern County in a very nice 55+ community. A lot of our neighbors were retirees from LA who made a lot of money off of the sale of their previous family home because of obscene real estate prices in LA. I did travel to Fresno for a recruiting trip to Fresno State (actually California State University at Fresno) and I did not see anything that impressed me about the city. We went to San Francisco a few times and we enjoyed it, but it was 7-8 years ago and I do not know how things are now.

My brother lives in Burbank and constantly makes fun of Bakersfield. Then I spent a week in Bakersfield, Fresno, Tulare, and Portersville for work and found it to not be so bad. Good, hard-working people over there. But I just thought it seemed such a sad and depressed place. My brother's attitude kind of cemented my thought that the coastal cities are crapping on that part of the state.

You say humor but I can't find anything that was close to being a joke.

I'd rather talk about bowl games.

I agree. Political posts unapproved. Some posts that quoted offending posts also unapproved and were collateral damage.

Bowl Games = Sun Belt Conference Talk discussion

Politics = Spin Room discussion

I used to have to go to San Diego for work. It’s definitely my favorite big city in California. LA has cool spots in the city, for example the places along the coast like Redondo beach are cool, but the massive sprawl of that city just isn’t for me. Haven’t been to Sacramento in a long time, but I heard they have made lots of improvements to infrastructure, retail/entertainment districts, and things like that. May have to give them a visit on a future CA trip.
