RE: Revenue/expansion predictions from a baylor site
Thanks for the warning in the title that it was from a Baylor site! I definitely put my anti-wacko virus controls, ad blockers and other computer protections on high before accessing it:)

The bottom line was a prediction of overall (including Tier 3) revenues at $42.4 million per school per year after expansion whereas it's roughly $47.2 million with the current members. Meaning an overall haircut of only $4.8 million per school per year. That's the best I've seen yet and maybe a little optimistic. Bear in mind that the Sugar Bowl doesn't pay out every year currently (because of the CFP rotation) and may go away (although the Cotton/Fiesta Bowls may take their place depending on CFP negotiations). It also mentioned 2023 as the target date for newbies coming in and possible further expansion.

While I want to believe all these projections and numbers (and trust me, I love projections and numbers), I have a hard time understanding/believing some of these values.

The article claims that the expected 2020-21 revenue for the Big 12 (with OU and UT) is $47.2M. That is a huge increase from the largest 2020 payout I've seen reported, which was $40.5M (LINK).

Are the 2021 payouts really expected to increase to $47.2M?

If the total Big 12 payout post-OUT is anywhere close to 365Sports' projected $42.4M, that would be incredible.

The difference is that this analysis includes Tier 3, which usually isn't included. Each Big 12 school makes some amount from the 1 football home game (usually FCS), multiple hoops games that aren't included in the conference package, women's hoops, baseball etc... from ESPN+ on Big 12 Now. KU, for example, has a separate deal with ESPN for several basketball games. UT has the LHN. OU has SoonerSports. The article averages those out to $4 million per school, but, in reality, the amounts vary per school. Not by much (except for UT). This article takes the high end of the recent projections, adds Tier 3, individual school merchandising and also includes the Sugar Bowl money (which might go away). If you include all that, you get higher figures than the reported conference revenue distributions.

This does seem optimistic though...[/b]

I don't think we really know what is going to happen $$ wise. It seems clear the B12 is worth more per team than the B8 would have been.

I think long term the Sugar bowl is a huge ?. Do they keep B12 in it or do they go for a # 3 or 4 ACC/B10 pick. The ACC past #2 has nothing, so it really would be B10# 3 to 4 depending on playoffs. Will access bowls even exist as bowls with new playoffs, or do they get folded into the playoffs?
