AAC - Is it a good idea
Cincinatti - Gone
UCF - Gone
Houston - Gone

That leaves:
- Memphis - Ok I would love to be in a conference with them again and win back the Bones.
- SMU - Ok I can understand they have had some good teams here recently
- ECU - Their Athletic dept is a dumpster fire but their stadium can get loud when they are good
- Navy - Gotta love service academies -
- USF - I know we have had some history with them but i wasnt around for that plus they have not been very good here recently i know they started off 2019? really well before the wheels flew off
- Temple - meh - dont care about them
- Tulsa - Meh - I know we have some history but very hot cold
- Tulane - Meh - Kinda similar feelings to tulsa

overall - I think the AAC is a better league only when it comes to money and exposure, which i think has more to do with the incompetence in CUSA's front office than it does in the actual league.

I'm not a basketball guy so I don't know if the league is truly much better on that front -

I just worry that if we move anticipating a big jump in revenue that the carpet will be pulled out from under us and ESPN cuts the revenue significantly. I have to imagine that Cinci, Houston and UCF were the main drivers of how lucrative the contract was.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
SMU still has piles of booster money.
USF might actually do better not competing directly with UCF.
I'd love the possibility to see the Blazers come up to the USNA every other season for the only games I'd be rooting against Navy!
Memphis will be back.
ECU's decline has been surprising, but I think they'll rebound with better decision makers.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
Personally, if some combination of the following are added:

UAB
WKU
La Tech
Marshall
Southern Miss
Georgia state
Liberty
Louisiana
Charlotte
ODU
App state

That makes the league significantly better than anything CUSA can offer right now. The basketball conference is pretty weak as it stands right now(SMU, Memphis, and temple are all good, the rest are meh at the moment) but adding the right group to it should make it a multi bid league most years.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
The answer is absolutely yes. I compiled historical data of all the major sports over the past 5-10 years and weighted them based on average revenues for each sport. The only team AAC team not to make the top 14 was ECU, but the other 7 schools were all solidly in.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Bwncl_6...OKwLp/view

I understand what you're saying about the new contract though, but this conference has to be worth at least $1mil per year per school, right? Aren't we only at like $200k now? Seems like anything would be an upgrade.

I believe Memphis will be gone by the time UAB gets there, if UAB is invited. The AAC will be a shell of its former self. But C-USA will also be a shell of its current self if the AAC picks from it. It’s all pure chaos. Personally, I’m ready to move out of C-USA. It’s past time.

You have to say yes. If UAB says no the next CUSA member says yes and we end up in a weaker CUSA and still have Judy at the helm

You go and don’t look back.

Uab’s ultimate goal is to be with peer urban institutions and prestigious urban private universities — houston, Cincinnati, central florida, south Florida, memphis, etc. You cannot get to where they are going from what C-USA has become or what it will be after the AAC backfills. You also cannot get there aligning with small regional universities. Period. The end.

Move and don’t give it a second thought. Go be great there.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
Nobody said they wouldnt go and didn’t want to go.

I’m just stingy and selfish. Folks want to add markets or one sports schools, and it doesn’t make sense for what one would hope to be a sustainable league.

“You can’t have your cake and eat it, too”

It’s hard to just be happy about a possible invite and shutting up. It appears to be a lateral move, but at least the leadership is somewhat more trustable.

If we don’t go, other CUSA teams will which will probably cripple the conference. I see no choice in the matter.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
You move just merely for the fact you would get Aresco over Judy.
Aresco atleast cares about his league and is vocal for his league.
I was skeptical also but the leadership is just so much better
With that said i do realize that ADs and Presidents have a hand in conference also so i guess you cant completely blame Judy

No question you take the invite and run. The new AAC won't be as good as before, but it is worlds ahead of CUSA. Plus, if we ever hope to get into a reconfigured B12, you have to make this step first.

RE: AAC - Is it a good idea
You grab the invite and run. Not only would our games be on ESPN but our TV payout increases fourfold. Our basketball gets far better. Aresco may not be legendary, but he's far better than Judy. On the whole this is a no brainer. What are we going to do, turn them down and hope for a B12 invite?

You don't take points off the board. We move so fast you hear a "pop" as air fills the vacuum where we used to be standing.

This has been one of my biggest thoughts all along. If UAB went to the AAC and did quite well after the move, and the big XII waited to expand, could UAB and Memphis as the last two additions be a possibility? We still need to prove a lot at that point, but we would at least have a chance.

Decent chance that more big 12 teams will leave over next 3-4 years. Get to the AAC and it probably won’t be a “last two.” But you ain’t getting that call to the big 12 out of CUSA unless you have been top 10 good for several years, and that isn’t going to happen from a cusa made even weaker by this aac raid. We need to keep our eyes on the big picture — what aac looks like doesn’t matter. It’s not lateral under any circumstance. The literal worst thing that could happen is it becomes a staging ground to build the best of the rest league.
