Defensive injuries?
Hi guys,

ND fan here. Good luck this week (not too much luck)

So from what I have gathered:

Tycen Anderson - questionable?
Saeed Holt - questionable?
Bolden - out for year
Desjuan Johnson - out for 1H?
Terrance Taylor - any update?

Is that more or less your situation right now? And do you expect any updates to come from Candle?

Thanks!

Never much injury info given. Your guess is as good as ours.

RE: Defensive injuries?
ND has a lot of injuries and unfortunately, & maybe a couple on secret suspension.

Liufau broken/dislocated ankle
Bauman broken leg
Moala torn Achilles
Fisher strained knee
Simon shoulder
Botehlo suspension
Flemister suspension

The two suspended are anybody’s guess because it could be one game up to the entire season, but usually 4 games when it’s an internal suspension.

Talked to Holt after the game. He seems optimistic.

Talked to Anderson before Norfolk St. and he has a sprain in his knee - seemed like he was going to be out a little bit longer than just 1-2 games.

RE: Defensive injuries?
It is sad that the only accurate injury updates we can get are from the players themselves. The media obviously does not care enough to report this information to the fans.

Is there a problem with HIPAA violation when it comes to injuries? Just a thought

I believe players have to sign a HIPPA waiver if they don’t object to release of injury status.

Must be. Brian Kelly came out today and listed Notre Dame's injuries, including surgeries and recovery times.

RE: Defensive injuries?
Take it for what it is worth, but at the weekly presser Candle said that Anderson and Holt are day to day and will see if they are available or not as the week progresses. He also said there weren't any other significant injuries during the game. Hopefully that means Winstead is good to go for Saturday.

RE: Defensive injuries?
good news overall. other than Bolden going down for the year in camp we're doing ok so far. anderson with his size and experience would be an asset against ND's big receivers/TE but can't rush him back from a knee injury early. Sounds like Taylor and Winstead were just dinged up vs Norfolk and should be back. Each brings something useful to this game (a fast veteran pass rusher and a big clever receiver) so great to hear that there's not much to hear.

RE: Defensive injuries?
What’s the word on Johnson? Does he have to sit out the first half? That has to be the worst rule ever initiated in sports. I get it if it’s an intentional target. But these incidental “targets” being enforced like this is ridiculous

Good News Indeed

Yes, he is out the 1st half of the game. A reporter asked Candle about that in the presser linked above, trying to goad him into complaining about the rule, and he just responded basically, you just can't lead with your head. Period. So, he clearly did not think it was a bad call. That's what Johnson did. It was clear to me and I watched the replay over again. The player was almost down at knee level, and Johnson bent all the way down to that level, lowered his head, and then went helmet first into him. He had plenty of other options on how to make the tackle.

Like all the other rules, you don't have to like them but you have to follow them if you want to play the game. It sucks for DesJuan but I give the NCAA credit for trying to protect players from serious head and neck injuries - as much for the tackling player (like the Ryan Shazier injury a few years ago with the Steelers) as the player being tackled.

RE: Defensive injuries?
At this week's presser, someone asked about Anderson's status, and Candle said he's getting close - is running - but not sure they get him back this week. I would guess that translates to definitely out this week, but maybe BSU?
