App won't crack the top 30 today but if we beat miami i'd expect to be around #20 or so.

Anyway to see where coaches vote for this? Surprised Coastal moved up 5 spots by beating a hapless Citadel.

I’ll try to find it, I know they publish it sometimes… not as readily available as the Sportswriter’s info.

I’m with you, never thought we’d budge much for Citadel, but it was a crazy week. 7 teams within 11 spots above us lost and fell below. Opened up a lot of room. Also, about 3 teams I’d have thought would jump us, fell just short. The latter is most surprising to me, thought for sure the P5 “pull” would launch Ole Miss, VTech, and Ariz St over us.

CCU with that schedule could be a top 10 team when they come to Boone in 5-6 weeks.

I believe Ole Miss and Virginia Tech are both better than Coastal, personally. I watched all three play. It's not a knock on Coastal so much as Ole Miss looks poised to make noise in the SEC West and I haven't seen Virginia Tech's defense play that fast in a decade or more; it looked a lot like a return to the Bud Foster glory years. Plus their quarterback runs 22 MPH but plays like a traditional passing QB.

Ole Miss with Kiffin's offense and an improved defense is going to be an issue for anyone.

Looks like Coastal is 17 in the AP poll, but their release is all screwy, and sorted by “previous rank”, so holding for that to straighten out.

Can’t disagree entirely, but man would I love to play both on the field!

I’m reserving judgement on VTech just a bit, I thought UNC was overhyped, and it appears that was the case. I’m not sure holding UNC to 10 points will prove to be that special.

RE: Sun Belt Top 25 Watch
VTech vs Liberty was one of the best G5 games played last year. Both QBs are ridiculous. Honestly, can’t believe LU didn’t jump into the bottom of rankings. People wayyyy underestimate them/their steep upward trajectory. Like them or not (fully realize most don’t), they are the real deal. Troy gonna find out this week.

The irony, of LU having been our bitter rival pre-Sun Belt, has not been lost on me. It has led down a very eerie path of similarities to CCU’s growth/success. Neither was on anyone’s radar, had no history to judge by at FBS level. Both had to suffer growing pains in the ramp up, which led to people almost completely ignoring the foundational growth/improvement that was visibly occurring outside W/L columns, and the subsequent “shock” when they both broke through last year. Granted, it’s been a lot quicker for LU, because $$… But, same path. Both now at a point where they’re deemed “one hit wonders, or flukes” because of lack of said history, etc. Both will continue to “surprise”, until whatever amount of said history proves otherwise.

Exactly. CCU and App (for now); keep winning and we have 2 in the Top 25. G5’s will pay dearly for losses. I fully expected the Cajuns to drop out this week; but didn’t think the fall (coaches poll) would be so far. We didn’t play well enough and paid the price. Long, slow climb back up.

If App wins this week and the Cajuns don’t lose again, I’d bet both are ranked coming into the midweek matchup on ESPN.

2 things have to happen. Belt teams need to keep winning and those teams ahead of them need to lose. Only two teams I see dropping out of the top 25 are UNC and Miami. I don't think they are as good as people think.

Not sure how the Cajuns move up much with our schedule the next few weeks. Unless there is an absolute bloodbath in ranked teams.

You might want to readjust your expectations even with a possible W against the U. There are only 2 top 25 match-ups this week that likely won't result in the losing team dropping out. I don't foresee anyone ranked #17 - #25 losing except maybe #21 Utah against BYU and the Mormons would likely just replace the Utes. App would have to hurdle 20+ ORV teams to break in so unless App mauls the Canes by 4 TD's, I just don't see it happening.

Without some wild upsets in the next 2 weeks, I feel App will have to start 4-0 before sniffing the top 25.

Found out who voted for App in the Coaches Poll.

https://youtu.be/LxET6qMAkC8

At 13:21 when asked about facing a "quality opponent" from the SEC to get their season going, Mike was quick to quip that "we played a quality opponent last week. I'm telling you App State is a Top 25 team. It doesn't matter where they're from."

So that's one mystery down in regards to the coaches poll.

And Ethan Joyce voted for App. I suppose that's not surprising considering he's basically Apps beat writer for the Triad. Hope he's proved right this week.

No you don’t, silly. He also has Miami at 23. If “he’s right”, you’re going down.
