Georgia Gameweek
Needless to say, our Blazers have quite the challenge ahead of them Saturday. Just going by recruiting rankings, Georgia is a significantly tougher team than the Miami squad we faced last year, and is by far the toughest team we have faced in the Clark era. Personally, I think recruiting rankings are a little suspect, and a better metric of how talented a team is can be gotten from how talented the NFL community thinks it is. Recruiting rankings are based on potential, NFL rankings are based on production.
To get an idea of what the NFL thinks of this Georgia team, lets look at Mel Kiper's current position rankings for next years NFL draft.

QB: 10b. JT Daniels, Georgia
RB: 9. Zamir White, Georgia
WR: 7. George Pickens, Georgia
OG: 2. Jamaree Salyer, Georgia
DT 1. Jordan Davis, Georgia and 6. Devonte Wyatt, Georgia
ILB: 2. Nakobe Dean, Georgia
OLB: 1. Adam Anderson, Georgia
CB: 10b. Derion Kendrick, Georgia
S: 3. Lewis Cine, Georgia
P: 3. Jake Camarda, Georgia

Thats just the list of draft eligible talent we are facing Saturday. Their underclassmen made up of top3 recruiting classes as well.

On the plus side we do catch them right after a huge win and the week before an SEC rival, so we are the proverbial trap game for them.

I think the Georgia gameplan against us will be simple. I think they will keep two safeties back, take away the deep pass and dare us to try and sustain drives running the ball against their front 7. On offense I think they will pound the ball until we bring a safety up to stop the run, and test our secondary with a bunch of man beating routes and see if our corners hold up.

It will be interesting keeping up with the coverage during the week. I'll be keeping an eye out for news out of the Georgia camp on their covid outbreak and their comments on us.

RE: Georgia Gameweek
Biggest Wins Ever!

Would a UAB win at Georgia be the biggest win ever in UAB Athletics?

Basketball Contenders
03-21-2004 | UAB 76-75 win over Kentucky to advance to Sweet 16
03-18-1993 | UAB 58-56 win over Alabama in NIT
03-17-1982 | UAB 68-66 win over Virginia to advance to Elite 8
03-15-1981 | UAB 69-62 win over Kentucky to advance to first Sweet 16

Unable to find list of top ranked teams we may have knocked off during regular season.

Football Contenders
12-01-2018 | UAB 27-25 win over Middle Tennessee for first Conference Championship
9-23-2000 | UAB 13-10 win over LSU

What y'all think?

In my opinion yes. Not just because it’s Georgia and it’s the SEC. Georgia along with about 5 other schools have clearly separated themselves from the rest of FBS. This is the most talented team we’ve ever faced. Fortunately it’s also probably the best team we’ve ever assembled. Still on paper there is a clear gap between them and us (as well as them and everyone else not named Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma)

I’d say that talent wise Georgia is on par with the Alabama team that just destroyed the Miami team we played last year. We lost to Miami by 17.

The CFN preview and prediction is a pretty good analysis actually. I hope they are wrong, but that sounds about right.

Yeah, they nailed it about our running game vs JSU.

Quote:The Blazer offensive line did a strong job in pass protection, and the ground attack was serviceable – not explosive, though

Serviceable vs JSU may not equate to what we need vs Tulane and Liberty, much less UGA. I was hoping that McBride would get up close to the 147 yard total rushing for UAB on his own. Expectations for him may have jumped ahead of his development but we still need him to be much better the rest of the way. I was also hoping Witherspoon would contribute. Is he hurt or ineligible?

RE: Georgia Gameweek
We may not have as talented of OL as Clemson, but we’ll be giving Georgia a bigger and older OL to compete against.

UAB | Clemson
335 JR | 310 JR
315 SR. | 325 FR
315 SR. | 315 SR
305 JR. | 305 JR
325 SR. | 300 SO

Clemson was playing a guy at center that’s never played that spot in college.

Their center got blown up more times than I can remember.

They have no excuse not to beat us. Especially given the caliber they recruit, and their depth. A win is a win.
