Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
Not sure what to make of Maine. I'd say UD was likely the second best team behind JMU entering the season and Maine played them pretty evenly.

I'm glad this game is at home. I could see where we could look past Maine for the game at Weber the following week.

Will Maine be up to play their old DC? It's been a couple years....

"If" you had you had any concerns coming out of last week game it might be pass defense, and Maine put up over 300 yards versus UD.

We lead the nation in rush Defense at -57 yards 03-lmfao

I'm less concerned about our talent. If I had a concern, it would if this team is yet up to speed. The team overall started a little slow last year.

I'll say JMU by 17 points. I think the O might be a bit sluggish.

RE: Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
Going to need to get the ball out quickly early on and establish the run. 3rd and long will be a killer for our reworked OL and I would expect Maine to throw a lot at Stephens.

Defense should get back some key pieces on the DL and secondary.

17 sound about right to me.

RE: Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
Agreed, I think +17-20 seems kinda inline as well. I expect the game to be a close at halftime and JMU to put them away in the 3rd quarter.

Fornadel is for sure a loss, but I have confidence in Stephens and am sure the staff will get him coached up this week. He was a rather coveted recruit and has a year in the system under his belt and some game experience.

Getting back Greene and McCormick on defense will add to the depth. The defense played much better in the 2nd half after adjusting to the passing game which should have them prepared for Maine too. I think Greene and Carpenter are gonna be a load to handle on the interior. I think we also saw this past week a commitment to rotating players on defense to keep them fresher (lesson learned from SHSU game last year).

Huge loss - but we didn't have him last year either.

RE: Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
I don't see any way they overlook Maine. I'm sure Maine would wish they would, but this team is too veteran and based on all of the reports extremely focused.
JMU was expected to beat Morehead State and have essentially proven nothing yet and they know it.
Losing Fornadel is unfortunate, but we do have some depth that should minimize the loss. There's no ideal time to lose a guy, but losing him this early gives more time to the guys behind him to step up. I think we'll be fine, but cannot afford to lose any more.

weeeelllll

They did not looked too focused and veteran the first half against Morehead. Never heard a team coming out of training camp saying they are not focused. And as I said - don't take much (one way or the other) out of either half last week.

I will believe it when I see it. It took them awhile last year.

The negative mojo tactic Jeff employs is, if anything, entertaining.

Maine has a decent one dimensional QB, but won’t be able to run against the Dukes. JMU inserts Greene, Hampton, Obese, and maybe McCormick this week.
The ragtag group of 20 transfers for Maine needs more time to gel.

Dogs > Bears

Prelude to a JMU ass-whooping of Maine will be steak and baked potatoes. That is all.

Regarding parking, JMU says they email the print at home parking pass each week - is everyone else getting this email? If so, when does it arrive in the inbox? I can go into my account and ask them to reissue a parking pass and they then send me the email, but I'm not getting any initial email.

It arrived the same day as the email you mentioned. 8/16 I believe.

RE: Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
Maine
Preseason picked to finish 9th in the CAA.
2019: 6-6/4-4
2020/21’: 2-2
HC Nick Charlton (3rd season, 8-8)
When named the new Maine HC in Dec 2018 at age 30 was the youngest HC in all of Div I.

Schedule
9/2 UD L 34-24
9/11 @ JMU
9/18 Merrimac
9/25 @ Northern Illinois
10/2 Bye
10/9 Elon
10/16 W&M
10/23 @ Albany
10/30 @ URI
11/6 SBU
11/13 @ UMass
11/20 @ UNH

Who the heck knows how good Maine will be. They got TWENTY new transfers.
https://www.pressherald.com/2021/08/05/t...right-fit/

They looked decent vs UD. Down 17-0, Maine score 24 points in the last 8 1/2 minutes if the 1st half. Then UD outscored them again 17-0 for a 34-24 final. UD had beat them 38-0 in the Winter/Spring @ UD. Down 27-24 in the 3rd qtr, a Maine WR being tackled near the goal line fumbled the ball out of the back of the endzone for a touchback. Otherwise, its maybe a 3 point game.

Fagano is a serviceable QB. Vs UD 24-41, 305 yds, 2 TDs/2 INT.

They do have a stud all CAA WR (4 receptions for 49 yds vs UD)
https://goblackbears.com/sports/football...iller/7809

The leading Maine rusher vs UD had 37 yds.

Box score vs UD:
https://goblackbears.com/sports/football...score/9217

That's 94 yards more than the entire Morehead team. 03-lmfao

RE: Week 2 - Maine @ JMU
The Maine offense scored 17 vs UD (the other TD came off a blocked punt). The Maine offense should have scored 24 (again fumble out the back of the endzone).

I don’t think Maine plays as well on the road. If Greene, Hampton, and McCormick are all back, thats an AA + an All CAA + a likely All CAA back that DNP last week, and Maine is going to struggle to move the ball vs JMU. With Fornadel I think JMU would top 40. Without him in the 30s.

I’ll got with JMU 37, Maine 10.
