I have them at #49, but ahead of only 3 Big 12 schools (West Virginia, TCU, and Kansas).

They wanted to fire Wells last year and didn't beacuse of money. He got asked what he liked about Lubbock in a local interview a couple of weeks ago and couldn't come up with anything.

Well if that is a factor, he won't be taking the Baylor job.

There is some speculation about Art Briles for the Texas Tech job.

SMU should be worried. Sonny Dykes could return home.

Not sure why all the love for SMU football. Yes, they're 7-0, but have you looked at who they beat? Not a single team over .500. And, aside from their win at TCU, all their other wins are against teams with two or fewer victories. They beat LaTech by 2 points and beat Navy by only 7. My guess is that they finish the season no better than 1-4 with remaining games against UH, Memphis, UCF, Cincy and Tulsa.

I'll take that bet right now.

Can’t believe Art Briles even gets mentioned. If there is any interest in him then Tech missed the chance to double down by hiring Dave Bliss too when Beard took the UT job.

So Walt’s got UH-Cincy in the AAC title game.

I kind of hope he’s right, it keeps our Bucket Loss squarely in the “quality loss” category.

On the other hand, I kind of want the Ponies to be as good as their 7-0 record might indicate.

Will be interesting to see how the UH-SMU game plays out this weekend. I kind of expect a blowout, but not sure who’s going to win!

RE: 2021 football coaching carousel
UTSA and Jeff Traylor have agreed on a 10 year contract extension, to pay him an average of $2.8 million/year, up from $830,000. There's also a commitment for more money to pay assistant coaches, and for facilities upgrades.

The buyout starts at $7.5 million after 1 years, and gradually decreases over the 10 years.

Unless there is a back story, this shows a real lack of appreciation for what he has done for the program. Not Wayne Graham bad, but damn near.

This is crazy to me.

Patterson is now a Texas coaching legend, imo. I realize this has been a hard stretch for TCU but they haven't really replaced Boykin.

IMO, Patterson would kill it in the AAC.

Do I think he still has gas in the tank? My opinion on that is TCU just refilled Patterson's tank. That man feeds on being disrespected.

I think Rice should kick the tires.

Unless there is a back story that we don't know about, we should do more than kick the tires. He should be on an airplane to Houston right now for a presser tomorrow morning. Gas in the tank or not, Patterson on fumes is better than what we've had in years.

Two years ago, Texas Football did a poll of Texas HS football coaches asking what university coach they trusted and respected most. Patterson was a runaway winner. Put that in your pipe and smoke it regarding how it would impact our recruiting.

Thinking further, given the way Bama's defense has slipped in the last couple of years (masked to some extent by offensive improvement), I could see him joining Saban's stable of analysts for a couple of low-key years before taking a job where he could stick it to TCU.

I agree 100%.

Gary Patterson recruiting Houston athletes to his 4-2-5 defense would be a marriage made in Heaven at Rice

With all of the spread offenses in the AAC, Patterson can take a class of 3 stars and neutralize anyone.

He really is a Xs and Os genius. His reputation is the cherry on top.

https://gridironhub.com/article/blog/the...d-stopper/

And, he's only 61. With UTSA just giving their coach a 10 year deal, Rice could match that timeframe and feel good the football program is in solid hands for a long time.

My suspicion is he didn't want to be a "Dead Man Walking" at TCU so he could get into the Head Coaching discussions this cycle.
