Let me throw this out there
What if the cusa and sun belt schools said no to the aac? It probably won't happen, but what is the aac plan then?

That would be like Bill Dazzle saying no to a date request from Cobie Smulders, were she single — i.e., the blunder of the century.

I would say that the bare minimum move is to get 1 school from somewhere. 9 teams allows 8 conference games. While it is not a great move, I would say UMass can be sold as a solid fit for the conference. Maybe NMSU? Probably not Liberty.

no one says no to a better tv deal and a lot more money. AFA/CSU was a small upgrade in money and were out of the footprint so it was no. SBC/CUSA dont have that problem

Wait for the new Pac-12, Big 12, and Big Ten media deals and the resulting realignment. At that point any remaining western schools (maybe BSU/SDSU, maybe CSU/AFA) will know where they stand in relation to the Power Leagues and will join the AAC to create a "best of the rest."
Stay small, stay nimble.

Pretty silly quesion---but the answer to your question is there are plenty of FCS schools that would love to move up---and several independents that would like to join a conference. My question to you is---In a league where everyone wants out---what CUSA team are you thinking would say no to the AAC? I cant think of one---much less 14.

Exactly, add UAB (as they already fit in well on all levels) to get back to the minimum 8 full members. If for example, the Big 12 takes Memphis and Boise move from there, the C USA schools and Belt schools will still be there. If for some reason the Big 12 takes USF and Memphis and SMU wants to leave, having more CUSA schools isnt going to keep the mustangs and say Tulsa from joining the MWC anyway. Dont add to add.

Your suggestion would be the practical approach to take.

It would also be like UConnHusky saying no to the Dazzler for a request to have beers at Robert’s Western World. The Nash is a near and dear to me.

In that universe, Texas and Oklahoma say no to the SEC, and our teams say no to the Big 12. I'm fine with that universe.

Add Buffalo from the MAC.
Or Liberty.
Liberty would pay extra to join. They are that desperate.
The AAC needs only one full member to maintain its NCAA governance vote and basketball tournament automatic qualifier.

Which is why UNT, MTSU, FAU, FIU, and WKU left the Sun Belt for Conference USA 8 or so years ago. It was a step up at the time.

Anybody who respects Robert's Western World is good people in my book. That's a fantastic place. Glad to hear you like Nastyville. And by the way, I've cheered for the Boston Celtics since the early 1980s. I loved when Bill Walton played and K.C. Jones coached. Was a huge Reggie Lewis fan (RIP). The old Boston Garden ... joyous.
