My experience at road stadiums has been almost universally good. Oklahoma fans in Norman were the best fans I have dealt with as whole, but so many fan bases were really cool with us.

That's because they knew they were going to beat the snot out of us. It will be a different story when we are in the same conference with equal or better players.

I went to a game with a guy that was FOR Notre Dame. He got tickets that came from his friend's dad that was a state representative.

I’ve always enjoyed watching your program, starting back in the Kelly era and all those Thursday night Big East games.
Nippert looks like a beautiful venue and a real unique setting for college football and will hopefully be able to attend our first game out there. Cincy itself looks like a fun place to go for a weekend of football. I love that high density row house style architecture you see out East and I’ve heard that the craft beer scene is good there too. I’m skeptical about cinnamon in chili, but I guess I’d try it.
I think you guys make a good bridge between WVU and the Plains state schools of the OG Big 12, and your basketball acumen and good academics make for a nice fit.
Looking forward to all the new additions except Houston. I hate that town and am tired of Texan egos.
Hope y’all make it out to Jack Trice for some of the nation’s best tailgating or brave the winter for some Hilton Magic if we ever get basketball up and going again.
Great post and thanks for visiting. The Iowa State fans I met when your team visited Cincinnati a few years ago were as classy as you! I was on your campus many years ago and came away impressed with it and the athletic facilities. I think when our fans get to visit (myself included) it's going to be a positive experience. And I'll also predict, many of your fans will fall in love with Cincinnati's unique topography and older neighborhoods with amazing restored 19th century buildings. It's not your typical midwestern city. Plenty of good food and beer too.

I had the same experience. Went in 2008. Immediately pulling into a lot some WVU fans asked us to combine tailgates with them. UC won in incredibly thrilling fashion. After the game we were at a bar. Random WVU fans kept topping off my beer with their pitchers. Had zero issues the entire night.
We showed up in Morgantown on Friday before the game and people were buying us beers at lunch. I’ll never understand how they got a bad rap.
I’ve been to every remaining 8 school except Tech and would rank as such:
ISU - I’m biased, but ask anyone who’s tailgated in Ames what they thought of it.
WVU - Might be better than us, but I don’t think they show out when they suck.
OSU - great people, fun town. The old Big 8 ag schools are similar.
KSU - OK State redux
KU - Lawrence Gameday is underrated. Bar hop the neighborhood around campus and enjoy $10 tickets.
TCU - Ft Worth is fun, and their fans are friendly, albeit disengaged
Baylor - absolute trash city, fanbase, and school

Being an urban school with limited space, UC probably needs to work on its pregame festivities in order to bring them up to B12 standards.
Cincinnati is no tourist destination like Orlando, but it is clearly distinctly different than any other place in the B12. It might surprise you, charm you. Depending on your perspective, you might find it run down. It probably won’t be what you were expecting.
Regardless, it’s not a bad place to visit for a football game. Easy access by land and by air. Plenty of accommodations and good eats and places to drink.
Too bad Kasich killed the streetcar from downtown.

RE: Welcome from an Iowa State fan
brother dan of ole banter lore would send me upon errands after receiving news of my impending travels. he spoke of cincinnati chili in a decent sized iowan metropolis. davenport? maybe it was in missouri, but i cannot recall publicly airing anything missouri. nice enough state but like a majority of the midwest, i'd recommend somewhere else. anyway i went to the amana colonies instead (also on my to do list). i lingered longer than most at the tap room and went gift shopping with a solid buzz
someone mentioned those mid aughtteen battles. we won on each others floors. someone also mentioned the danny fortson (kelvin cato?) years. what about the marcus fizer years? it's typical of cincinnati to dominate a team in the regular season but when the tourney comes rollin, we cannot replicate the magic against those very teams. the clones take a fair amount of cincinnati footballers and therein lies what i know about iowa and her relationship with the nasty- which happens to be tr's daughter alice's pet name for our fair queen. isn't there a cincinnati iowa? yeah i thought so
i also went to dubuque

Thank you for the friendly welcome! I really hope Matt Campbell stays for the long haul. Campbell vs. Fickell for the next 10+ years would be really fun to watch.

The fun topic would be, what jobs would Matt Campbell jump at? There can't be that many.

Honestly, I hardly consider Ohio and Iowa to be in the same part of the country. Cincy is as far from Des Moines as DFW is, I think. The cities in Ohio are bigger, denser, and older with more industrial bones and classic architecture. A different world altogether.
Should be a lot of fun!

RE: Welcome from an Iowa State fan
Thanks for the welcome! ISU is definitely high on my list of road games, seeing as Ames will be the 2nd closest Big 12 destination to us (being just a hair closer than Lawrence).
Football is rolling for both of us right now, while the basketball programs are in a rebuild of sorts. A lot can change in 2 years, but I'm anticipating some great games.
Interesting fact: both Jack Trice and Nippert stadiums are named after players who died from wounds sustained during a football game... and both happened the same year, 1923.

This is an interesting topic. The trips I'm most looking forward to (I've already done Morgantown):
1. Phog Allen (Kansas...yea it's basketball, but I'm pumped for this one).
2. Boone Pickens Stadium (OSU)
3. Jack trice Stadium (ISU)
4. Lavell Edwards Stadium (BYU...Big 12 the place looks beautiful)
5. Kansas City (For the Big 12 basketball tournament)
6. Amon G. Carter Stadium (TCU)
The rest are kind of season dependent.

I'm not a Florida kind of guy, so Orlando doesn't interest me in the slightest. A city like Cincinnati is a lot more interesting, IMO.
I think UCF is a good addition, and the Bounce House seems like a great environment, but the campus is way the hell out on the edge of town and almost like it's own self contained world.
I would definitely hit it for a game if it worked out, but right now Cincy is my top destination of the newcomers. If BYU wasn't Mormon, it would be #1, but I'm mostly German and beer and football are inseparable in my mind!

There is no shortage of beer and beer drinkers in Cincinnati. If you end up coming here, take the underground tour and visit the old lagering tunnels under Over-the-Rhine.
