RE: Week 0 & 1: Standouts!
UTEP had 2 rb's rush for over 100 yards, Awatt and freshman Eldridge. Our top rb, Hankins missed the 2nd half of the NMSU game and the entire B-C game. He will also miss the game this Friday but should back for the UNM game. The Miners are pretty deep at rb with Awatt, Wadley and Eldridge. Flores does ok as well.

Same thing with Western on offense/receiving yards
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CUSA has 3 out of the top 5 top QB ratings
2. Bailey Zappe
4. Max Bortenschlager
5. Tyler "Mr. INT" Johnston III (probably need to change that "Mr. INT" to something else after last season and the start of 2021)

14. Chris Reynolds
29. Grant Wells

6 out of top 20 QBs in AY/A
#1 Tyler Johnston III
3 Max Bortenschlager
8 Zappe
12 Chris Reynolds
14 Bailey Hockman
18 Grant Wells

QB play is where this conference was the weakest last year and this is a good sign things might be changing. Lets hope it translate to FBS games

I know it’s just one game and against a pretty poor UT-Martin but I thought Zappe looked every bit as good if not better than Brandon Doughty or Mike White. Especially in his ability to look the field over. Someone said he stares down his receivers but I didn’t notice that during the game nor when I watched the replay.

Phenomenal touch on the ball and strong enough arm when he needs to go long or throw that long out pass. Pretty good feet too on the very few times they got any pressure. I think we have a pretty good O-Line again which is one of the things that made Brandon and Mike such good QBs.

He definitely favors his boy Stearns that he brought with him. When we signed Davis and I saw his numbers from Oregon and everyone raved how fast he was all I could think of was Willie McNeal. A burner with no hands. I pictured him dropping a perfect pass dropped in on him with nobody around. His first drop on the out made me wonder but then he calmly caught the bomb and then ran away from the db. I believe 6 different players caught TD passes. Simon did nothing early but he should be a big target for Zappe as they get to know each other. Not many drops by the receiving staff as a whole.

I always respect your take. Whatchu think of Zappe? I know. UT-Martin. That doesn’t have anything to do with his actual throws doe.

Three notes on UTSA...

- Charles Wiley's fumble recovery was returned 44 yards for a touchdown.

- Lamonte McDougle also had a fumble recovery for UTSA.

- Aside from those two notes about fumbles, the reason you'll find there weren't any 'big numbers' performances by the Roadrunners is because we played our starters for only two quarters. We played our backups (offense and defense / combination of 2nd and 3rd string) for virtually the entire 2nd half.
