Huge credit to him for putting the university first. He’ll always be the coach who took UConn to a BCS bowl.

"Go out and win as many games as possible"

In other words, we are going to be preparing like mad for that vandy game.

It must be depressing for Edsel to see everything he once built up just turn into an absolute pile of garbage.

But then again, if he gave a crap about everything he had built up, he should not have left UConn the first time.

Yeah, and Edsall didn’t forget how to coach either since his first stint. I think the hole just got so big after him, he was unable to recruit out of it.

Scott Frost to UConn. You heard it here first.

Someone here had asked the question whether a coach could be "tarmaced" after losing a home game. I guess we have our answer.

It wasn't *just* the home loss to Stanford though. It was six years of mediocrity for a blue blood top-10 program. USC only finished top-10 once, and certainly wasn't going to do so this year.

USC now gets the entire fall to locate and select the most likely desired P5 job opening this year.

Jacksonville lost its first game. Could USC pull a Bobby Petrino and lure Urban Meyer just games into his first NFL stint?

Urb and his team looked lost yesterday when they got crushed by the team that was supposed to be worst in the NFL this year, so that seems like it's at least a possibility.

Uh, no... I root for Kiffen or Charlie Strong. I believe they both would do incredibly well at SC.

C'mon, Kiffin would never leave an SEC head coaching job after only one... Oh, wait. Never mind.

Winning 10 and 11 games is mediocrity? Texas would love to be that mediocre again.

Rankings mean nothing. If youre not the National Champion who cares if youre 10th or 12th?

Think one thing about this- this will make it where if lets say Michigan starts to really struggle or maybe the FSU loss to Jacksonville State game is a preview of the FSU season- they might make their move sooner rather than later.

Three P5 schools lost games to FCS teams (8 FBS teams total). To my count, seven times a G5 team beat a P5 team. And the first firing is because someone lost to Stanford?

Both of those teams, like USC, have enough booster money floating around that they can easily do that if they want. Most other teams won't be so quick to fire because the contracts they have given their coaches have ginormous buyout amounts.

In 1992, Arkansas fired its head coach after losing the first game of the season to The Citadel. Buyouts were peanuts then: $84,000 for each of the five years remaining on the coach's contract. That's a total of $420,000.

Compare that to what Florida State would owe if they fired Norvell today: 85% of the remaining value of his contract, which would be well over $18 million.
