conference's opening week: 4-7, overall disappointing results
Central Florida came from behind and beat Boise State in Orlando, 36-31 Thur. night. A good result in the new coach's first game, but not the completely one-sided victory that the AAC could brag about.
East Carolina lost to Appalachian State in a neutral site game in Charlotte, 16-33. Sure, App St. is good, but you hate to see a long time "higher level" program lose like that to one that has only been D1 for a couple of years, and AAC losing to SunBelt.
Tulsa lost to UC-Davis in Tulsa, 17-19. Extremely disappointing, not what we wanted to see.
South Florida got walked over by NC State in Raleigh, 45-0. Horrible result it would seem, unless NC St. goes on to sweep the ACC, which they won't.
Tulane held its own against the preseason rated #2 Oklahoma, losing 40-35 in a game relocated to OK because of the hurricane. Did Tulane show they would be a force to be reckoned with in the Big12 after OU & Tex leave? The Leftover8 would like to only lose by 5 in Norman.
Temple was destroyed by State University of New Jersey at Rutgers, in Rutgers, 14-61. Way too lopsided of a loss for the AAC to a bottom-dweller BigTen. Maybe they won't end up bottom-dwellers this year, but still.
Cincinnati walked over Miami(OH) 49-14, at home. As expected.
Navy was torpedoed by Marshall 7-49 in Annapolis. C-USA stinging AAC again.
Houston coog'd it and gave up a 21-7 lead to lose to TX Tech 21-38. Did they show they don't belong in the Big12, at least at the current state of their program?
Southern Methodist performed unholy domination in a religious war against Abilene Christian, 56-7.
We didn't dominate as completely as we would have liked, kicking 5 FGs, but handled Nicholls State 42-17, at home, with a true freshman QB, and gaining 355 yds in the first half to lead 29-7.
