I hope we win. I'll be there for sure.

I expect us to lose 38-10. And my Cougar wife will be happy.

It's term of endearment. But she hates when I call her 'my first wife'.

Is anyone really surprised this happened at a UH game? My worst experiences with fans of the other team of been overwhelmingly with Coog fans.

Shame to see college graduates acting like that.

Oh, wait a minute...

Line sounds about right with Rice at home (and UH down on their team so some last second fans might not show up now?). The O/U seems high when both teams struggled to score in the 2nd half last week. It's not like either defense gave up a ton of yards either. But maybe they're figuring on a lot more turnovers and short fields again.

RE: Rice v Houston pre-game thread
It brings back memories of the first Rice-Houston game 50 years ago. It was my first gam as a Rice student. I remember the pep rally in the RMC Grand Hall with William Martin giving a speech. I had already been going to Rice games for at least a decade because my parents would take me. I had even been to a UH home game at Rice Stadium in 1962. I must started going to Rice games around the time my parents took me on a train trip to Kyle Field to watch the Aggies play Baylor in October 1959. I wound up getting degrees from the 3 schools which I gone to home games.

RE: Rice v Houston pre-game thread
I watched about 60% of the UH-Tech game. UH was not very impressive, even in getting out to an early 14-0 lead. Dana was aggressive, going for and converting 2 4th and 1's on the opening drive, and successfully onside kicking after their 1st TD. Tech's offense didn't get on the field until there were 2 minutes left in the first, down 14-0, and they won 38-21. And Tech is picked next-to-last in the Big XII. From what I saw, UH's offense looked pretty anemic, other than Tech mistakes (some lost containment on the QB and 1 busted coverage); lots of check downs and not much running game. UH's D was not impressive, except they dialed up some good pressure on 3rd downs. Bottom line: I was not very impressed with UH when they were winning, and they lost the 2nd half 31-0 (most of which I did not see).

I don't think there is much home field advantage for us. Neither team has to get on a plane, miss class or deal with unfamiliar weather. Plus the crowd will mostly be in red.

This is worrisome, since with Bloom's pound the rock offense, Rice will be facing a lot of third-and-longs.

3 observations about the fight:

1. Never underestimate The value of the high ground in a fight, even when the fight is man to man.
2. Even as equality between the sexes grows, hair pulling seems the tactic of choice with females and, against other females, seems quite effective.
3. Where was stadium security? That fight was a long time brewing and clearly trouble from minute one.

Lady in the black dress lost her wig and dignity. If you are going to fight, don’t do it in a short dress.

Hard to tell which fans were which. Too much red.

Home lockers are much more pleasant than the road ones. Plus they'll be in the sun and humidity for the first half at least.

Crowd might be slightly tilted to UH, but not as much as it would have been had they played well against Tech.

In any Rice-UH game, the home field advantage is, IMO, negligible. I think the biggest factor in HFA is that one team has to travel - leave campus on Thursday, fly or drive, etc. That has no place in this game. For both teams, their routine is essentially a home game routine. Nobody is going to tired from travel.

I don't think crowd has much to do with the HFA, but to the extent it does, Rice's anemic attendance doesn't help us much.

Familiarity with facilities - like home lockers - probably has some comfort value.

Taking all the factors into account, I think Rice's HFA in this game is about .25 points. Or less.

Might explain why the line is 9.5 instead of 10.

In any case, the job is the same - win. Overcome any and all negatives. I don't care of we are at U-Hou or at Rice - just win.

I think the line is still overweighted to the UH side, and if I were a betting man, I would consider putting some cash on Rice.

I am pretty sure the rational guys in the short sleeve shirts were Houston fans and the 50 pound overweight guy was Texas Tech. Not the Red Raiders finest hour.

Who's injured (on our team, not in the fight)? I like our chances against UH if everyone is back.
