Beyond those three schools, I think it comes down to an affiliate offer to Army, or one of Charlotte and Buffalo as the fourth new member.

If the MAC should lose Buffalo, candidates to replace the Bulls would be Marshall, UMass and JMU.

I differ a bit. I think UAB, Buffalo, and Rice are the most likely selections. After those 3---I think there is some flexibility with that last selection. I could see the last pick being selected entirely based on athletic contribution to the conference. This is where I could see a Marshall, LaTech, or AppSt getting the nod. None are top 200 per USNWR---but of the 3---Marshall is at least reasonably close to Memphis in terms of USNWR rankings. I think a conference with Rice, Buffalo, Tulane, SMU, Tulsa, Temple, Navy, and USF can withstand adding one Marshall/AppSt/Latech type member without undermining the overall academic integrity of its institutional profile.
I think Ohio would be a solid number four for the same reasons.
They get decent support for a MAC school and the academics are solid.

Ohio U. unfortunately is in Athens a very small town of a few thousand. It has NO tv market and this is the major drawback. They are a very good school but 100 or more miles from a real city. They do not have any support in the two cities which they are 100 miles from as one supports Ohio State University and the other supports the University of Cincinnati. I do not know about current support but a few years ago they rarely filled their small stadium.

There's a 3rd....Huntington, WV only 88 miles away. They are actually located in our TV market, or at least used to be.

I would personally love to be in a conference with both Ohio and Toledo. Those are the only ones though. Unfortunately they will never leave and have no desire to leave.

On paper this sounds psychotic, but the nice thing about both of them is that there is NO BIG BROTHER in the public school system above them. They both in theory can become anything they want to.

You're adding Diet Duke and Diet BYU.
