I never have been a fan of the silly theatric approach to making college football like a little league game. I’m surprised the players didn’t run off the field to the concession stand to get their free snow cones after the butt whipping they got from Northern Illinois. Georgia Tech looked unprepared from a player development standpoint and from a strategy standpoint. I hated the stupid money down displays on the Jumbotron. That stuff just looks stupid when teams keep getting first downs. The announcer boldly saying “and that’s another Georgia Tech first down!” with one second on the clock and the ball at the 50 sounded pretty dumb too.

I don’t know who we should hire, but Collins is a clown.

I don't think Collins is a clown. In fact, I actually think he is doing a pretty good job, especially considering what he had to work with!!! You do know that what he is doing is basically taking Navy and converting them into a more traditional offense, which is anything but easy!!!! Collins is going to need a lot of time before he can truly judged on whether he is a good coach or not, IMO. I'm thinking he probably needs as much time as what Bill Snyder had to build K-State, and I am not kidding either!!

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
I have been a steady Ga Tech fan for 30+ years. I cannot remember being so disappointed in a loss and the state of our football program.

Apparently hype, and pizazz trump substance in our program. Hats off to our players for their effort. Last night was a failure of Xs and Os, a failure to prepare our team, and a killer for our recruiting. As much as I enjoyed our Paul Johnson era and the triple option when it was clicking, the program had run " out of steam" and it was time for a change.

Hats off to the NIU team. They deserved to win. They were the better team, better coached, better prepared team last night.

Unfortunately we need a NEW HEAD COACH.

Geoff Collins is a great recruiter, but not a P5 Head Coach. After the AD raised $125M... The fan base is not going to stand for this. I think the lesson that Georgia Tech has learned is that "Geoff Collins is what happens when you order a football coach on Wish." The Geoff Collins era ended yesterday night. It’s going to be a 1-2 year lame duck after this game do to the buyout. The GTAA has $125M for the buyout but it will take meetings and voted to divert some of the money to absorb this mess. But the Program has been set back maybe worse than the BILL LEWIS era.

So, a winning record in his 3rd season? Yeah, that ain't happening. Even adjusting for strength of schedule (which, let's be honest, K-State built-in 3 easy wins every year), that still means Collins needs to win a minimum of 4 to 5 games this year... again, I don't see it.

Looks like op may get his wish. I knew the GTAA got the band back together with O'Leary types. What I didn't know was that Homer Rice was behind the scenes again. So while the football program is an unmitigated **** show at a generational nader, the leadership in the GTAA is spot on.

Serious question, and I’m sure it has been asked before, but given Georgia Tech’s academic standards to even get into the institution, what is a realistic outcome for Georgia Tech football? 6-6? 7-5? I am not trying to be a troll. I highly respect the school and the students. I’m just wondering, given how tough it is to get into Georgia Tech, what is the size of the pool of athletes that can make it into the school? And from that pool of athletes, what is the talent level? Would even Nick Saban be successful at Georgia Tech given the academic rigors of the school?

Doesn’t GT have easy majors? Not everyone there has to major in engineering and hard science. Also, there are other schools that are even harder to get in than GT.

Winning at a high level can be done at GT. It requires the right AD. It requires a President behind the mission. And it requires somebody who understands GT. All of those things seem to be in place right now.

There are places where your typical football athlete can do fine like the Business school (colloquially "The M-Train" for engineers who couldn't hack it in engineering). The one absolutely unnecessary handicap on athletics coming from academics is the mandate that every single person -- athlete or not, regardless of major -- take and pass with a C or better Calculus at Georgia Tech. That one causes lots of unnecessary knock on effects. And they're snooty about what they'll take too. You got a 4 in AP Calculus? That's adorable... no credit for you yet. Take this test from GT and we'll judge for ourselves what you do and don't know. You took Calculus at South Carolina or Texas or Florida? GT won't be accepting those transfer credits without you again taking and doing well on GT's own calculus test.

GT doesn't have a liberal arts offering beyond a few technology related minors. Liberal arts is where dumb football players usually hide. Google the "Stanford Easy A List" that the football team use to pass around. Harder for the student doesn't necessarily mean harder for the football player. Stanford has plenty of places to hide a neanderthal playing football. At GT the best cover you'll get to hide is the business school.

While this hinders building up a football program easily, it is also why GT has the second best ROI on tuition versus starting pay in the country to only the Colorado School of Mines. It's also why the average GT graduate is a millionaire ... they don't produce Art History and Interdisciplinary Studies majors at GT. You won't find former GT football players emptying the garbage after their career is over. And I think that's peachy with everybody at GT. Let WVU and Ole Miss fight each other over who can hang the bar lowest. GT has another way, and it can still work at the highest levels athletically.

NIU was a 18 point underdog. Their last win before last night was November 2019. Yes, that means their 2020 campaign was winless. And that's not an outlier at this point. 2019 Citadel. 2020 Syracuse. 2021 NIU.

After reading the Homer Rice piece in the AJC, I'm quite pleased and confident that heads will roll immediately if they lose to Kennesaw and heads will roll at the season end if this is another <=4 win campaign.

At this point I put the over/under for GT at 4 wins (let me revise that down) 2 wins.

Losing to 2020 SU was not a big deal. No one was surprised by a one win team beating a 3 win team. Its not the same as losing to The Citadel. Not even close. Neither is losing to 2021 NIU. No excuse for losing to the Citadel. But losing to an NIU is nothing to be embarrassed by and imo, not very shocking to the average fan.

A degree was offered in psychology when I attended Georgia Tech. I actually had a roommate for a quarter that was a psychology major. I always wondered, why? If I wanted to major in psychology, I would go to college they had a much more favorable female to male ratio.

I’ve been very high on Collins. GT is going to take a long time to get them on the right track. I think year 5 would be the make or break year for him.

BS in History, Technology, and Society

African American Studies, Health and Medicine, Global Health, Sociology, and Sports Society.

HOWEVER, even though you can slip by real calculus, you are going to get at least a semester blasted with its dumbed down Calculus for the Biological Sciences or Survey of Calculus.

Georgia Tech Core (36 hours)
Computing Requirement (3 hrs)
Students complete either CS 1315, CS 1301, or a computer programming course approved as satisfying the general education requirements in computer literacy.
Wellness Requirement (2 hrs)
All undergraduate students attending Georgia Tech must satisfactorily complete a wellness requirement (APPH 1040, 1050, or equivalent).
Humanities And Fine Arts (12 hrs)
HTS students take ENGL 1101 and 1102 and six credit hours in a single foreign language. ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102 must be completed in the student's first 30 credit hours at Georgia Tech. Applicable language classes may not be taught in English.
Social Science Electives (3 hrs)
The state of Georgia requires all students to take a course on the government and history of the United States. Any one of the following courses will fulfill this requirement: HIST 2111, HIST 2112, INTA 1200, POL 1101, or PUBP 3000. This course must be taken in addition to the HIST 2111/2112 class taken to fulfill the HTS core requirement. HTS students satisfy the additional required nine hours of social science courses with their HTS classes. Note that credit is not given for both INTA 1200 and POL 1101.
Mathematics (8 hrs)
Students must choose one course to fulfill Area A2 of the general education requirements (1501 or 1552 or 1555 or 1712) and one course or course sequence to fulfill Area D of the general education requirements (1502 or 1551 + 1553 or 1551 + 1554 or 1551 +1564 or 1550 + 1553 or 1550 + 1554 or 1550 + 1564 or 1711). Course(s) to fulfill Area A2 must be completed in the student's first 30 credit hours at Georgia Tech.
Science (8 hrs)
Students take two of the following eight courses: BIOL 1220, BIOL 1510, BIOL 1520, CHEM 1211K, CHEM 1212K, CHEM 1310, CHEM 1311 & 1312, EAS 1600, EAS 1601, EAS 2600, PHYS 2211 or PHYS 2212. The courses need not be taken as a sequence.
History, Technology, and Society Core (32 hours)
Students acquire a grounding in history and sociology by completing following sequence of courses. All classes must be taken for a letter grade and students must earn at least a C in the class for it to count towards the HTS core.
• HTS Non-US requirement (two courses, selected from a menu),
• HTS Science, Technology, or Medicine requirement (two courses, selected from a menu),
• SOC 1101,
• HIST 2111 or 2112, and
• HTS 2101.*
They also take one economics course from the following: ECON 2100, 2101, 2105, or 2106.
Students complete two HTS 4000-level research seminars (four credits each) in their junior and senior years.
* Note that HTS 2101 is a pre-requisite with concurrency for HTS seminars. HTS 2101 must be taken before or at the same time as an HTS seminar.
History, Technology, and Society Electives (24 hours)
HTS requires that students complete an additional 24 hours of HTS electives, in the following configuration:
• 9 hours selected from any School of History and Sociology classes,
• 3 hours selected from any School of History and Sociology HISTORY classes (no special topics courses),
• 3 hours selected from any School of History and Sociology SOCIOLOGY classes (no special topics courses), and
• 9 hours selected from one of the seven available areas of specialization.
One class (three credit hours) with a D grade can be used to fulfill HTS electives.
List of all HIST, HTS, and SOC classes
Non-Major Cluster (12 hours)
Students are required to complete a 12-hour non-major cluster--12 hours of coursework in one field/one course prefix (e.g., 12 hours of BIOL) or 12 hours that all apply to the same interdisciplinary certificate or minor, through they may have different course prefixes.

Now as I put on my advising hat to counsel young people my prescription would be as follows:

If you are indeed limited and should not be at GT, take these math classes at Georgia State or one of the two year schools in Atlanta and get the credit transferred. This is one way Duke gets around a few things for its athletes - they can take courses at NC Central or NC A&T, or UNCG.

The ONLY comparative advantage at GT is that you will be up against fewer stupendous writers. Perfect English combined with actual writing style and good opinion is the mainstay of the liberal arts at UNC and Duke.

You can skip over to the transfer articulation site for GT and see what they will take from a Community College or another lower level university.

By far GT is the most academically rigorous of any ACC school.

A loss this coming weekend against Kennesaw State (which I see as entirely likely) and my GT polo goes in the "archive" section of my closet to not be touched until G**** C****** is gone or we're in the ACC Championship game.
