That's possible, but not likely. Most likely they land just short of a bowl at 5 wins. If they'd have just not crapped the bed in week one, that'd be a bowl.

I am sure if Geoff lands on six or ever five wins everyone will be safe.... 4 wins and he will make a OC/DC change... 3 wins he might be gone....

I think GT gets 4 wins and Collins is safe. If he wants to solidly his job he is going to have to make sure they put away the teams they are supposed to beat. Then he needs to get to at least a bowl next season.

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
Major Georgia Tech Donors move expectations for Geoff Collins from .500 and Bowl to 5 wins!

From the first Article (3 Sept 2021) on expectation from Major Donors as .500 and bowl game:

“My view of the world is that we ought to win six or seven,” said Steve Zelnak, a Tech grad and prominent donor to the athletic department and institute. “If things go really well, maybe we win eight. Three or four (wins) doesn’t cut it. Even though we’ve got a tough schedule, it’s time to step up and get it done. I’m pretty optimistic.”

Another major athletics donor, Gregg Garrett, said that he talks to as many as two dozen Tech fans daily as the season approaches. “And to the man or woman, they all say the same things,” he said. “It’s time to win. It’s time to move forward with this program. And this is the year we’ve got to do it. It’s universal. And that’s rare to get a universal opinion about anything.” Garrett feels an urgency for the Jackets to reach .500 and qualify for a bowl. He praised the work Collins and his staff have done in recruiting and player development, calling it a “miraculous job.” But he called this a “critical season” for Collins and his staff. “I would put ‘critical’ in capital letters because if we don’t move the program forward this year, then I think that gives a lot of people – whether it’s the fan base, whether it’s recruits, whether it’s opponents – it gives them pause about where we are in this process, and is this process going to work?” Garrett said. “I think in Year 3, recruits want to go somewhere where it’s going to be a successful program, and in Year 3, it’s hard to sell, ‘We’re still rebuilding’ if you’re not winning,” Garrett said. “They want to see the proof in the pudding, so to speak.”

From updated Article (15 Oct) on "win" expectations from Major Donors they went from .500 and a bowl to 5 wins:

“There’s no doubt when you watch this team play that this program has moved forward and gotten better,” said Gregg Garrett, a major donor to the Tech athletic department. “But it’s got to show up every week consistently, and they’ve got to find a way to win some games.”

Garrett, who before the season called it critically important for Tech and Collins to get to at least five wins, if not more, maintained his position. “I’ll kind of double down and say the second half of this season is hugely importantly for this program,” he said. “Nothing’s changed. If anything, the first half just makes the second half even more important, to some degree.”

With three wins in hand, the Jackets have a tough remaining schedule: @Virginia, @Virginia Tech, @Miami, Boston College, Notre Dame and Georgia. Finding three more wins from that group won't be easy, and two isn't a gimme.

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
Over the past 20 seasons, Tech's record against rival Georgia is 3-16 (they didn't play in the 2020 COVID year). That's a deep hole to start out from. Against Clemson they were 7-13, with only 2 of those wins in the last decade. The hole's not getting smaller.

Their regular season record against other FBS OOC opponents was 25-13, but only 8-10 since 2011. Against current conference opponents other than Clemson, the Jackets were 43-27 from 2001 to 2010, and 38-33 since then. Against current Coastal Division teams they were 52-46. They have done better against the Atlantic Division (29-14), but they now get only one such crossover game a year other than Clemson.

With Georgia and Clemson on the schedule every year and Notre Dame every third year, the Jackets may need to schedule two pretty sure FBS OOC wins a year and they haven't been doing that lately.

The SEC can't lock up ALL of the Sun Belt teams, can they?

WOW, that is some narrative you have...from that take GT should just shutdown the football team... However when you look below at Georgia Tech's record from 1995 to present you will see That Georgia Tech has only finished ACC play with a losing record only three times! (2015, 2019, 2020)

Season, Overall, ACC
1995- 6-5, 5-3
1996- 5-6, 4-4
1997- 7-5, 5-3......Finished Ranked 25th AP
1998-10-2, 7-1.....Finished Ranked 9th AP//ACC co-champion
1999- 8-4, 5-3......Finished Ranked 20th AP//2nd in ACC
2000- 9-3, 6-2......Finished Ranked 17th AP//2nd in ACC
2001- 7-5, 4-4......Finished Ranked 24th AP
2002- 7-6, 4-4
2003- 7-6, 4-4
2004- 7-6, 4-4
2005- 7-5, 5-3
2006- 9-5, 7-1......1st (Coastal)// ACC Championship Loss
2007- 7-5, 4-4
2008, 9-4, 5-3......Finished Ranked 22nd AP//2nd (Coastal)
2009, 11-3, 8-1....Finished Ranked 13th AP//1st (Coastal)//ACC Title
2010, 6-7, 4-4
2011, 8-5, 5-3
2012, 7-7, 5-3.....1st (Coastal)// ACC Championship Loss
2013, 7-6, 5-3.....2nd (Coastal)
2014, 11-3, 6-2....Finished Ranked 8th AP//1st (Coastal)//ACC Championship Loss
2015, 3-9, 1-7
2016, 9-4, 4-4
2017, 5-6, 4-4
2018, 7-6, 5-3.....2nd (Coastal)

2019, 3-9, 2-6
2020, 3-7, 3-6
2021, 3-4, 2-3

I think what has the fans super worried is not that Coach Collins has a losing record.... it is the fashion we lose.
1. worse loss in modern-era 73-7 to Clemson
2.Georgia Tech’s 382-game home non-shutout streak gone with a 45-0 loss to VT
3. Coach Collins has yet to beat a team that finished the season with a winning record and he has yet to extend his winning streak at Georgia Tech beyond one consecutive game.

I can't even begin to talk about the COFH series! However to be fair to Coach Collins no one really thought we would be competitive with that series while we transitioned from the TO to his scheme. Also when George Oleary took over in 1995 the thirty years before (1964 -1994) Georgia Tech was only 8-22 in the COFH series! That didn't stop the Coach from going 3-3 against the Dwags during his tenure! However...back to Collins... to not even be competitive ACC play, again not talking about COFH series?? Come on we do not need another Bill Lewis, we need a Coach at least as good as Chan Gailey!

Georgia's heights are in part due to PJ surrendering recruiting wholesale. The lion's share of that ugly record is 0-fer Chan Gailey's work of dropping the ball handed to him from O'Leary. Gailey was a bad hire in the first place, and indicative of where things were headed for the next 15 years under poor leadership at AD from Dave Braine(less), the eventual author of the now infamous Paul Hewitt contract.

Rome wasn't built in a day. The Queen Mary doesn't turn on a dime. GT is definitely on the up. I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of a UGAg golden age that was ultimately sparked by realignment shielding UGAg from being in the same division as the SEC powers more often than not. Courtesy of Texahoma, UGAg is about to welcome Bama to the SEC East. 04-deal

Yep if Florida ever decides to grow a pair you would have each SEC power playing at least 3 studs a year (content value by design). Each pod is essentially 2 studs, a cud, and a dud.

Yes... The GT Volleyball team and Women's Basketball team are on their way up! If your are stating that GT Football is on the way up...hmmm... I would have to disagree, the program has been set back!

04-deal

Yes... The GT Volleyball team and Women's Basketball team are on their way up! If your are stating that GT Football is on the way up...hmmm... I would have to disagree, the program has been set back!

Every program is on the way up. The only lagging indicators right now are football and softball.

I have one for you Ken d.....Since this week GT is heading up to Hooville, Does anyone else find it crazy that in CPJ’s 5 trips to Hooville, he won there twice, which is half of our all-time wins there. CPJ was 2-3 in C'ville. All others GT coaches are 0-9 since 1990. Last 5 road losses have been by 5, 4, 6, 3, and 5. Not sure if CGC can get a "W... I sure hope so! Go Jackets!

It's mind-blowing.

GT is 4-13-1 all-time at UVa, 2-12 there since 1992.
The 2 wins came when UVa was 3-9 (2009) and 2-10 (2013).

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
Hey so I know this guys named Hokie Mark, he has this great blog... He put a one pager together on the Yellow Jackets and how they have put together a long list of 1-to-3-point losses since 2014, which includes the end of the Paul Johnson Era as well as the entire Geoff Collins Era.

Here is what is interesting... when you look at the close losses in the Paul Johnson Era they were to the likes of Frank Beamer VT, Tennesee and Jimbo Fisher FSU... When you look at the close losses in the Geoff Collins era they are to FCS Citadel & NIU.... Just from that you can see how the program has been set back and as the years go on and the longer it takes to get back to bowl games the less and less it will be Paul Johnson's schemes fault and it becomes just a plain ole coaching problem. One thing people can learn from the George Oleary-Chan Gailey-Paul Johnson-Geoff Collins....is you can win at Georgia Tech, you just have to be able to coach your scheme. (Coach the boys up)

So far only George Oleary and Paul Johnson have done that to this point!

It's now safe to say that Thacker (DC) is on the hot seat. Burton (Co-DC, Safeties) and Dixon (WR) are getting similarly warm in my book.

It's sounding more and more like you are going to get the attack of the POD Dawgs.

Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina
Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas
Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M

This will be the primary reason that the ACC and the B1G will expand to 16 teams each.

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
We find ourselves 3-4 with 3 games coming up that I believe will be crucial to the Collins regime. Two games are at home. The three opponents are a combined 10-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Win all three and we avoid a losing season and likely go to a bowl. Win 2 and I think most will be patient in the offseason. Lose two and 4-8 simply cannot be sold as evidence we are headed in the right direction. The pressure on next season becomes immense. Lose all three and nine wins in three seasons will make for an intolerable offseason and most surely will affect recruiting.

I think it's fair to say he has to win all three of the next three to go to a bowl. I also think that's a really big ask when he has yet to win two in a row in three years. They probably win 5. While that might be good enough to avoid staff changes in the offseason, it will add salt over how they crapped the bed in Week 1.
