Also just as a reminder GT paid NIU a 1 million guarantee lol

"Northern Illinois will travel to take on Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., on September 25, 2021. Northern Illinois will receive a $1 million guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract obtained from Northern Illinois University via a state Freedom of Information Act request."

Still buzzing from last night’s game. A few thoughts:

I completely wanted NIU to tie the game at the end with a PAT- huge balls to go for it. Great catch by Ritchie who had a couple of them. How tense was the review time on that play! Geez, I yelled 50 times that his hand was underneath the ball. I felt a possible reversal coming, but thank goodness it did not.

Saw exactly what I wanted- we have some athletes on this team- clearly we are recruiting at a higher level.

Solid tackling last night, kept the YAC at a minimum. Cannot underestimate how critical this is.

O-line looked awesome

Lombardi clearly stayed calm and delivered on the last drive. Team rallies around him and after this win will even more down the road

Huskie Stadium better be rocking next weekend.

Waylee has an extra gear- feels like Garrett Wolfe out there.

Go Huskies, I am so fired up right now.

Can’t say enough about the tackling. Technique must have been an emphasis.

Let's see ... catching a TD out of bounds on 4th down ... there goes 7 points.
Missed easy FG ... 10 points.
Missed moderate FG ... 13 points.
Missed desperation but still plausible FG ... 16 points.

These are the laments of sore loser. Toe out of bounds happened bc NIU got through the line and put the qb on the run. It was a forced error. The illegal formation on the punt that saved GT from giving up more points was an unforced error. Big difference.

You missed FGs bc your kicker stinks. NIU has been there. You need to scout better.

Bottom line: GT(or at least their fans) thought they would outclass NIU with superior talent, size and speed. They had none of those advantages.

I was impressed with Waylee’s power. He does not go down easy and drives forward on contact. He’s no where as elusive as Wolf but he will have an impressive season.

He was great in this game.

We definitely got to get our other backs involved. Waylee is not that big and running him like a workhorse is going to lead to injury. Besides, I thought we had all these other great backs, get them in the game and let's see what they can do.

I think Hammock though Waylee would break a few more long ones. Maybe he also trusts Waylee with ball security more than anyone. Either way I’d love to see more creativity with the entire offense.

I get it. Hammock wanted to make a toughness point. He did. Now let’s make a talent point.

They literally had zero chance of stopping any of our gunners during punt coverage. Waylee left EVERYONE on that ACC defense in his dust. The OLine was pushing around a 330 plus DT. Our backers, especially Rayner were moving around and jamming things up. Rarely did they ever get stopped

I don’t think I have ever thought that when NIU was playing against a “big time” school.

Hammock really has changed this roster.
We basically were saying the same thing ha you stated last night, and NIU looks huge. This is going to be some fun years ahead folks!

Another thought- how great was Hammock with the interviews during and after the game. So poised, matter of fact & confident. Not a Carey hater, but he was painful with the media, not good with words and always with a confrontational edge that did not need to be there. Hammock handled it all perfectly.

The tackling and swarming to the ball was what jumped out at me the most last night. Super excited to see the growth in that category.

O-line took a nice step forward too.

Imagine if we had the nerve to go onto a GT message fan board and call them FCS. That would be petty.

I'll say it. GT is a glorified FCS program.

Yep. And that coaching staff is D2 level, tops.

Georgia Tech’s $1 million payment to Northern Illinois also brought in a team that jumped to a 14-0 lead Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets scored three consecutive touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, but NIU went 80 yards for a touchdown with 38 seconds to play, then added a two-point conversion.

Like Illinois, Georgia Tech also lost to an opponent it paid in 2019 — The Citadel, an FCS school that received $400,000 and took home a 27-24 overtime win.
