From my perspective there have been attempts to form power conferences made up of the best remaining schools regardless of geography to compete with the established, geographically defined power conferences.

Here is my perspective of these Best of the Rest Conferences and their history

Any thoughts??

1975 - 1995: Metro Conference
1995 - 2005: CUSA
2005 - 2013: Big East
2013 - Texas/OU to the SEC: American
Texas/OU to the SEC - ???: Big 12
