When we brought this Carolina Clown to Louisville. We should have known when UNC hired an ESPN broadcaster, instead of this so-called football savant from 160 miles down the road, this hire wasn’t going to go well.

Satterfield is done.

That's an excellent point. Gotta rep you for that.

RE: Open Thread - 2021 Football - Week 1
The thing is, Louisville football hasn't been consistently very good much over the past 15 years. Since 2006, it has had good seasons - when it had Teddy Bridgewater and then Lamar Jackson at QB. Outside those 3-4 seasons, the team has been mediocre.

And really, only with TB. Even with LJ, IIRC Louisville was losing several games a year. Except for the two exceptional TB years as the Big East was collapsing, Louisville has been a 4-5 loss a year program for a long while now.

We were also beating schools no one gave us a chance to beat with Schnellenberger like Texas and Alabama. Had Ohio State on the ropes in Columbus twice. Have beaten ND in Southbend so it's not exactly We have been bad. Granted last night the Guys fought back in the 2nd half and that was on Them, not so much the coaching staff. Look at the fire in the belly of Ole Miss coaching staff last night. You would have thought it was the Super Bowl. That is all we ask. Show some emotion and challenge the team to win

SEC coaches all seem to understand the importance of winning non-conference games; ACC coaches do not seem to get it yet. Ask any SEC coach and I'm sure he'll tell you he's playing for a final top 25 ranking in Week ONE, not just weeks 4 through 12. Conference games are NOT more important than OOC games - in fact, they might be less important when it comes to national ranking (and certainly w.r.t. recruiting!)

It kills me how many times I've seen a Week 1 ACC/SEC matchup where the SEC team had obviously gameplanned specifically for their ACC opponent, while the ACC team just looks like they're treating it like a warm-up game for the conference schedule...

If that IS the way the coach views it, then just schedule 4 cupcakes!

Yes, OOC games are the national ballgame. Your national rep is built based on OOC games.

Q: How much of the recruiting at GT has been done by the assistants and how much is the head coach?

Yup...the ACC has been failing.

A couple more this weekend coming vs the B1G

ACC needs to go 2-0

There are actually 2 vs Big Ten and 2 more vs. SEC:

Week 2 P5 OOC:
Illinois at Virginia
Pitt at Tennessee
Rutgers at Syracuse
NC State at Miss. St.

The only way the ACC gets that nasty taste out of its collective mouth is to go 4-0.

All 4 should be close. I like N.C. State against Mississippi State and Virginia against Illinois. Tennessee at home should have a slight edge. I see Rutgers and Syracuse as even this early in the season.

It's not just how many losses the ACC took this week. It's who took them. Clemson, UNC, Miami, Florida State, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Duke all lost. The wins were by Wake Forest, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Pitt and Boston College. That's not who you want leading your conference, even this early, if you want to be perceived as good.

Q: How much of the recruiting at GT has been done by the assistants and how much is the head coach?

It's more than just that. It's about the marketing and branding and culture and appeal and so on. The people doing that work are Collins, Suddes, and "Morpheus". Assistants have a hand too. Tashard Choice is lights f'n out in recruiting. He's banking an elite RB every year. GT has the best RB room in the conference. Give Etienne back to Clemson and that might still be the case. I don't see Patenaude or Thacker's name on many big recruit signings though....

And games vs Rutgers and Illinois? Those should be locks.

Really, if you wanted to pick four teams from the B1G and SEC for the ACC to rack up some OOC wins against, it would be difficult to cherry-pick four better opponents, IMO.

Petrino even though He laid down his last year after Jericho was fired did leave the covert quite full. He was a real good recruiter and Satterfield made the most of it His first year but many transferred before and after His first season. Obviously the players could feel the system wasn't a fit. Recruiting has struggled vastly from what We were used to. I'm not yet calling for a new HC but last year and the end of His first season are still fresh on Card Nation's minds

I’m calling for a new coach. I have grown tired of his aw shucks schtick. He needs to just resign and save the program from another season of his ineptitude.

Hey Mark,

Remember that Greg Schiano is back coaching Rutgers. This is his second year back. He's a very good coach and he averaged over 8 wins a season the last 6 years he was at Rutgers before running off to the NFL. I wouldnt take Rutgers too lightly especially after they scraped up Temple the way they did this past weekend. I still think SU would win but this isnt the same Rutgers that has been losing the last 5 or 6 years.

EDIT: Rutgers is receiving votes in the Coaches Poll this week

RE: Open Thread - 2021 Football - Week 1
The lack of respect for FSU is surprising to me. They had ND beat and yet ND stays ranked 9th and FSU is about 28th. That's crap.

Anyone think Coastal Carolina could stay on the field with FSU, or Liberty?

I'm not sure we can draw conclusions from a game. FSU was playing at home, they were fired up about Bobby Bowden, and in the end, they did lose the game.

We can think of times when a team had what seemed like a big breakthrough performance - e.g., Mississippi State vs LSU last year - and then it goes poof the next week.

Bottom line is, if FSU starts winning, they will rise.
