And of those 6, only one of them (the PF for jawing) was of the nature that has been drawing so many rightful complaints. Holds happen. PI's happen. I thought at least one of holds (on Jones) was EXTREMELY questionable. It was flat-out a bad call. The PI on 4th down, eh, I can see that being called but they let a bunch of them exactly like that go uncalled, right in front of officials, all game both ways. I also didn't like that the call was made, yet again in C-USA, by an official across the field rather than the official right there watching the play. That to me just just playing hard, which also happen to be the kinds of penalties most coaches can live with. We played one of the more disciplined games we've played in quite a while at Marshall. Blazers will need to do that again. If they can do that for the rest of the season, I think we'll all be happy with the results.
Me too. I would have thrown the flag. If it hadn't been thrown, I would have considered it a big break. But that call should've been made by the official who was right there looking at both of them, straightaway, no? In C-USA more than any other league I watch, the offside official throws that flag, often late as the defender is celebrating. It's infuriating even when they get it right, and it also feels like they call PI in C-USA on 3rd and 4th down more than in any other league. I'd love to see stats on that.
The taunting call was a weak call too unless perhaps he said the magic words. But our guy should've walked away, especially given the stage in the game and our rep for that kind of thing.
