RE: 2021 football record prediction
I believe 11-1 is possible with the talent and experience we have. The only team that is clearly better than us is UGA, but we have so many toss up games. To get to 11-1 TJ3 is going to have to stay healthy and take his game to a new level. We also have to eliminate the excessive amount of stupid penalties we've been plagued with thats cost us some very close games.

If we go 8-4 its another solid season and we probably win CUSA but its time to step up if we really want to be considered one of the Top G5 programs. CUSA Championships alone aren't moving the needle.

My prediction is 9-3. Loss to UGA, loss to either Tulane/Liberty, road loss to one of the better CUSA teams.

But you'll get torn apart if you predict an 8-4 or 7-5 record because that is a very realistic possibility based of recent history. I'll just say UAB will not go undefeated, not be ranked at the end of the season, and have only one home loss.

Really? I see plenty of 8-4 predictions and no one is jumping on them, much less tearing them apart.

I understand that you are a "realist" to the point of not being able to be optimistic about anything, but do you have to always be so brash about it?

There's a reason that over/under for Ws sits at 7.5. And yes, on paper this is UAB's toughest schedule since the Return.

I just think this team is built for it, and after watching about 100 hours of video of both UAB and key opponents in the last 2 months, I'm pretty confident in predicting closer to best case than worst case.

Georgia is the best team UAB has played since restarting football, by a good bit. But I also saw how Cincinnati matched up with them on the lines in the Sugar Bowl, and that to me is going to be a big tell for how the rest of the season might go. UAB competes at the LOS with the Dogs and there isn't a team left on the schedule they can't mash. They are going to grind up some teams.

This is a fantastic post. I completely agree about FAU.

Scariest teams to come to Bham since the Return are Liberty and FAU, back to back. I think UAB will play very well against Liberty, though. It's the next one, FAU, that is scarier because I think it falls at a place where the Blazers could be gassed emotionally and physically.

I had no idea I was being brash. My bad! But yes I am a realist and yeah our schedule is difficult especially when you're playing your first four games on the road against some really good teams. And based on our recent history of playing good teams outside of CUSA, I am not that optimistic about UAB having a winning record coming into the Liberty game. I hope I am wrong and have to it crow for it.

But I am optimistic and confident UAB will win another CUSA Football championship and optimistic about AK turning the basketball program around so there's that.

Most likely only the first 3 will be away from home now.

I predict 9-3 which would be a strong finish given the schedule. Losses to UGA, one of Tulane/Liberty/FAU, and @Marshall.

RE: 2021 football record prediction
Man you are on a roll.

Obviously, blew a game against rice and lost a perceived toss up to Liberty. Most of the experts had UaB losing to Liberty, Georgia and toss up to Tulane, so ….

I expected our offense to be more physical — which it still can be — and the penalties to be reasonable not worse than they were last year, so … nobody could have predicted out defense to lose so many top players.

We’ll see over the next 3 weeks whether this team can play to its potential.

RE: 2021 football record prediction
How is 9-3 predictions that off? Was mostly the consensus. Still within reach. 8-4 was another predominant prediction, aside from some dreamers who said 1 loss, but nobody truly expected that with this schedule.

UTSA has done amazing this year, but they also haven’t played a UGA or Liberty. Illinois isn’t going to a bowl and scraped by Charlotte, and Memphis is having a down season and may also not get a bowl. If we play like the final 3 quarters against LaTech or like we did against FAU, then 9-3 with wins over UTSA and Marshall are attainable. Most realistic? Either 8-4 or 9-3. This team won’t backslide and be 6-6

I think UAB finishes 7-5. Can't see us beating a decent and a very good team on the road.

6-6 is extremely possible If the miscues and penalties continue at the rate they have been, as well as the poor coaching decisions

Best win of the season. 7-5 is still possible but that's a discussion for next week.

Still on pace to reach my 9-3 pick. Got the FAU and Rice outcomes wrong.

I fully expected 11-1 regular season in August. So clearly, it's been a disappointing season so far. But I could definitely see us going 9-3, which would give us two more chances for 11 wins.

Ok, but Almond Milk with a hint of honey is pretty good. But what does that has to do with what you said? I just want to know what you are talking about in the bold?

I thought we were contrasting my optimism with your pessimisim.

I also thought it was fairly clear what I meant, but I'll 'splain. We are now 7-3. If we win the next two Saturdays--which is still a possibility--we are 9-3 regular season. That gives us a chance to play in the conference championship game, and a bowl game, and with wins in both, we could still get to 11 wins.

Is it likely, with this team, and the injuries, and the chronic mistakes we make, to win four more games in a row? Probably not. But it's possible. That would salvage what I believe to be a fairly disappointing season.
