This year is the inaugural Bayou Bucket Giving Challenge between the Rice Owl Club and the UH Cougar Pride. Give from September 5th to September 11th and prove that we have the most philanthropic fans in Houston! The school with the most gifts after the week-long challenge will be declared the winner after the Bayou Bucket on September 11th.

All gifts for the Bayou Bucket challenge will go to the Rice Athletics Scholarship Fund. Gifts must be a minimum of $20 to count towards the giving challenge. Share your support by using the hashtag #bayoubucketgiving on social media.

This is both a participation challenge.

The challenge kicks off today. Here's the e-mail sent out this morning to all Owl Club members...

Rice Athletics will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Houston Food Bank at donation bins in the lobby of Tudor Fieldhouse, the visitors entrance of Fondren Library during the week, and at the gates of the Bayou Bucket Classic football game on September 11th.

As of publication time this morning, UH was slightly ahead of Rice, 67-64.

Did UH really not get a donation yesterday? They were at 67 when I commented on Thursday that we trailed by 25. I can't find any comparable tracker on their websites or social media, but I did discover that their own SID doesn't know that "CougarPride.com" belongs to an artist selling Washington State bronze statues and not the UH equivalent of the Owl Club.

I don't think this page is dynamic. I think somebody is coming in and hardcoding what it displays.
