College Football Week 0
If McCaffery got beat out by Martinez, I can understand how Green is still in the running for the starting QB position.

Nebraska is playing embarrassingly bad.

16-9 Illinois at the half.

Nebraska built its football dynasty on a unique provision of Nebraska law. Each county in the state gets to select one high school senior who gets to attend the University of Nebraska free. An amazing number of them turn out to be huge offensive linemen. Since they are not on athletic scholarship, they are "walk-ons" who do not count against scholarship limits. So all football scholarships could go to skill position players. If you recall, during the Osborne era the Huskers had a number of "walk-ons" win the various awards for linemen (Outland, etc.) and go on to be high NFL draft choices.

About 10 years ago, the NCAA changed its mind and said, "No, Nebraska, those have to count against your football scholarship numbers." Nebraska hasn't been worth a damn since.

Scott Frost also passed on the opportunity to get Joe Burrow (from a Huskers football family) as a transfer in favor of then-freshman Martinez in 2018, so maybe take his opinion on QBs with a heaping spoonful of salt.

That and the PEDs that were available, plus how they recruited borderline NCAA academically ineligible JUCO players. Someone tweeted earlier today that Texas, Michigan and Tennessee may eventually “be back”, but Nebraska never will

LSU is coming to Houston today in advance of Hurricane Ida. They'll practice in Houston through Thursday before leaving for UCLA for their game next weekend. The article says they'll be practicing at the Texans facility and some other practice facilities this week.

I saw another story which said Tulane was heading to Birmingham.

Someone from the athletic department / coaching stuff better be getting on the horn with LSU to get some tips on playing the Piggies. A scrimmage would be a bit of a stretch, but no harm in asking.

UCLA dominated Hawai'i, but interestingly they had a bit less than 33,000 people at the game - their 2nd smallest home crowd at the Rose Bowl since 1982 (when they moved their home games to that stadium from the Coliseum). They'll have a much bigger crowd next week against LSU but you have to wonder if they will have more fans than LSU.

UTEP had a pretty effective dismantling of rival New Mexico State 30-3. I watched quite a bit of that game. They have some offensive weapons and their DL isn't bad. They could get off to a decent start with their very easy start to their schedule.

I noticed the spares attendance as well, and that it should matter as much for UCLA but I don't think they start fall session until mid-September so campus still pretty quiet if you're counting on busing students over to the Rose Bowl.

Having a strong UTEP program is a good thing for CUSA. In fact, having all 4 CUSA Texas schools be strong contenders within the conference would actually begin to provide a positive conference identity, especially if the 4 could generate consistent out of conference wins at the beginning of the season.
