So......

App. St., Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, and a CUSA/MAC team.

It’s a clear step up. Media markets matter.

Media markets wasn't the reason Texas and OU joined the SEC. New Orleans tv market isn't going to get Tulane in the Big 12. Houston tv market alone isn't going to get them in the PAC 12 or ACC.

It's important but it depends on the situation the conference is in. TV markets clearly hasn't helped CUSA.

Agreed. They matter, but only to a certain extent. If you athletic department sucks as a whole, nobody is going to be watching no matter how big the market is.

If a school like UTSA or Rice made serious investments into their athletic programs then they would benefit from their location. I think it would be easier to recruit a kid to San Antonio, Houston, or Miami than Boone, NC or Ruston, LA.

Media market isn't the mover it used to be in conference realignment but for UAB I think it still may be a big positive. It's not the size of our market, which isn't small, but the viewer interest that sets it apart. Sports viewership is down in the US almost across the board but not here for college football. I think college football will become more of a regional sport in the coming decades and it would make sense for the Big 12 to add a team from the heart of college football country. With the right schedule, there are a lot of potential eyeballs for UAB football in central Alabama.

Tv markets are not helping cusa because the teams haven’t been good. Put that with the decisions to move to broadcast partners that do not have great distribution or count in metered rankings and you will get a compounding effect of that dynamic impacting performance.

I'm going to Manhattan KS next week for a family visit. Think I'll drop a gift basket off at the ADs office :)

https://sports.yahoo.com/think-big-here-...16120.html

1. ECU
2. Memphis
3. Navy
4. SMU
5. Temple
6. Tulane
7. Tulsa

New adds
8. Liberty
9. UTSA
10. App State
11. GA State
12. UAB

I don’t understand the UTSA add in this situation. If we do go this route I certainly hope the basketball could be a little better. There are still a few historically awful basketball programs in that setup. Either way, it’s better than where we currently are though.

Who would you substitute for UTSA?

Really about half of the current CUSA. La Tech, Marshall, WKU would be my first three choices.

None of those have much of a TV market.

Yet, you propose boondock schools Liberty (Lynchburg, VA) & App State (Boone, NC)?

Liberty because of their national attraction (mini BYU) and App because they seem to be the best available program.

If you have 2 better choices, I would like to see them.
