RE: With Alliance, scheduling becomes more difficult for Notre Dame
Is there anything in writing on this "alliance" yet?

If not, this thing is nothing.

I don't know how you make this thing work. If a SEC team and an ACC both have an opening in the schedule that the other can fill and the only other options are FCS teams... what do you think they're going to do?

1) honor the alliance?
2) schedule the game?

Schedule the FCS team and get that extra home game revenue.

Schedule the FCS team and get that extra home game revenue.

A home game against the worst of scrubs nets NC State about $2 million. For Clemson they will net about 3.8 million. FSU will net about 3 million. VT about 2.5 M and UNC about 1.8 M.

The scrub makes sense unless it is skipped for a neutral site game and a guarantee that is at least a million or two more than what they get a home with the scrub.

You have the added benefit of reducing the overall package of tickets for home from 7 to 6 and no one ******* about paying $40-$50 plus donations to watch SC State, Jacksonville State, Elon, or Gardner Webb.

Clemson versus UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington, or Stanford at Orlando, Atlanta, or Charlotte would likely fit the bill. NC State, VT, or UNC against PSU, OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin or Michigan State in DC, Charlotte, or Orlando would fit that bill.
FSU and Miami against a P12 or good B10 in Orlando is also going to fit that bill.

You just have to give B10 and P10 time to go to Disney World in Orlando.

Because of where they live and what they live for, only Clemson's fans will go anywhere that Clemson goes on the Labor Day weekend. If people further east like SC, UNC, NC State, and UVa are made to choose between their beach house and a suck opponent in Charlotte, or Atlanta, there is a tendency now to skip it so you have to take these quirks into account. Time of day also matters.

So why don't the Alliance members just agree that they will no longer schedule any FCS opponents? There will be more than enough G5 patsies available for buy games, and they are almost as certain a "W" as FCS (as long as you don't schedule the top 10-15 G5s).

FCS are cheaper.

I like keeping FCS teams on the schedule I just wish the scheduling office would stop playing conference games opening weekend. It’s dumb!! Let’s play William & Mary or VMI the first week for crying out loud.

Someone posted the idea of a "preseason game" vs FCS schools

I think that would be a fun idea

I think a Spring game vs. and FCS school would be pretty cool too. I'm sure it would be a sell out.

My preference would be to play FCS games in the spring as an exhibition and play more P5 games in the fall season.

Yea I don’t understand why this couldn’t be done. Instead of having ONLY 15 days of practice for Spring change it where they could have a full month of Spring practices with the opportunity to schedule 2 games against participating FCS schools who are practicing as well. The only reason I mention participating is due to budget for all the FCS schools. Some schools may not be able to schedule Spring games for what ever reasons etc.

Labor Day is a tough draw for the northern teams too. Speaking for Syracuse: last weekend before kids go back to school, many want to go to their camps or the beach or the NY State Fair before sweating in the Dome. Now that the Dome has A/C maybe this will help.

Sounds great until you factor in more injuries and more losses.

Football fans at traditional powers are spoiled. They don't want to have 4 and 5 loss seasons.
