Everyone seems convinced he won't take the usc job. Bottom line is we really don't know what that coaches will do. I'm convinced based on who fickell has turned down so far it will take an elite job to get him. Usc is an elite job. Is it a job he would want? We just don't know. I'm optimistic he'll stay but I won't pretend to know his decision process or what he and his family would want.

Exactly this Mark. This isn't fear mongering. What would any of us do in our careers when offered one of the top jobs? There's a lot of factors involved and most people would think everything through and make a decision. And, I'm not saying he will take the USC job if offered. That said, I'm not going to slam dunk anything at this point to say it's not possible. That's why the sooner we can nip this in the bud the better. It is going to become a bigger and bigger distraction as time goes along. Dear Lord, wait until we get to the bye week before Notre Dame.

Fickell is going to be a top candidate until he says he isn't. But I'm assured by Chad's reply, and by the increased resources our program will soon enjoy. And, the more I think of it, he'll have to make a statement of some sort before too long. Such a difficult time to fire a head coach.

The weekly media press conference is at noon today.

Lighten up, Francis.

I was making a point that Los Angeles is not exactly the most desirable place in our great country for conservative leaning people with small town roots. The "because they're smart" comment was a tongue in cheek joke, no need to get yer panties in a wad.

Panties in a wad. Awesome. A point about someone's assumed political leanings is fine. Commentary isn't. Please keep it off threads.

It's not assumed, Luke and Amy are registered Republicans, that's public information. It's also relevant to the point I was making that LA isn't the most desirable place to raise a family for conservative people with small town roots. So sorry to offend you with my commentary and a light hearted joke on a topic that is relevant to the discussion.

Hmm. I just downloaded the tongue-in-cheek app at the request of bearcats23 (getting my panties in a wad proved painful), but this comment isn't registering. Might be true?

@williams_justin Luke Fickell pretty emphatically swats away the USC chatter. He says more than anything, it’s a compliment to what the #Bearcats have accomplished in recent seasons.

Luke's wife is from the small, conservative town of Spencerville, OH. She's from a big family of 10 kids and my understanding is that the family is really close and Amy likes being close to home.

Both Amy and Luke have lived in Ohio their entire lives.

Fick's son is a freshman on the team.

Amy's sister is married to Ohio State great Bobby Hoying, they live in Columbus where Bobby is part owner of the large real estate development company Crawford Hoying. Their son (Fick's nephew) committed to UC as a preferred walk on at QB.

Both Luke & Amy are politically conservative (because they're smart), Amy has small town roots and she lives 2 hours from her parents.

I would be shocked if she is ok with dropping her family into the epicenter of one of the largest and most liberal cities in America that just so happens to be 2,200 miles away from her family.

USC ain't happening. Ohio State, definitely. Notre Dame, definitely. USC, nope.

This is a typical uniformed Cincinnati/Midwestern post. There are plenty of Conservative enclaves in LA area such as Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, and Orange County. Most of the wealthy areas in LA area are Conservative so Luke and Amy would fit in. Trump raised more $ in 1 fundraising quarter in those areas than he did in 4 years for the entire State of Ohio. I was in LA earlier this summer and I saw plenty of Brosefs and Barbies at the Beach in their eff Biden Boats. USC is still a Conservative Private University, and it's nickname of University of Spoiled Children.

In laugh my A!? when people from Cincinnati and Ohio dump on LA and California. Cincinnati and Ohio has been declining for decades. Ohio is filled with Rusted Decaying Cites with lots of Drug Addicts. The West is better than the Rust Belt. The West is where Innovation Takes place and Progress thrives where as the Midwest/Rust Belt continues to decline.

USC is one of the best Premier Programs in College Football with lots of resources, fertile recruiting area, and lots of $$$! This is USC not Michigan State or West Virginia and I'm a little bit concerned. I still feel that Luke is waiting for the Ohio State job, he is still in his 40s and Ryan Day will leave for the NFL in the next few years.

You fraud! :) Full disclosure for geef, I'm joking again.

PS - I'm guessing you've never been to Spencerville. It's pretty safe to assume that Amy had a very conservative upbringing. If there's 20 democrat votes in the entire town I would be surprised. She's from a large Catholic family, also a demographic that doesn't exactly lean liberal. The area of the state that Amy is from is about as red as it gets. I think Bruce Monnin will concur.

Touche, I'm not very familiar with LA, just the perception that it has nationally.

The rest of your comments are pretty ridiculous, and I'm not even from Cincy.

You first paragraph is correct. I'd guess 1/3 of the people in LA (or their parents) grew up in small town Midwest. LA has 13 million people - it's easy to find a group of friends for almost any niche.

Your second paragraph is straight out of the 1980s. Greater LA (the whole metro) has lost population in each of the last 3 years. Even Cleveland and Detroit are growing faster.

10 years ago, LA had 23 Fortune 500 HQs. Today, it is 14.

10 years ago, LA County had 33,000 homeless people, about 40% of the total in the Midwest. Today, LA county has more homeless people than the entire Midwest.

L.A. is the new Cleveland in every negative way.

Basically the MSU response when it happened. I do believe he is leaving it until after the season either way.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Well it took a little less than four days when the Big 12 was officially announced for some Bearcat fans to swing from manic to depressive based on a coach firing on the left coast and a few tweets. If Fickell goes, it's another UC coach moving on to a super elite college football program with unlimited resources.

I'll never say never but I just don't see this one. From his effortless commute from Indian Hill to Clifton to his deep family ties to Ohio he has demonstrated loyalty beyond our expectations. What he has built here is about to advance to another level never imagined: P5 visibility and prestige, a first class indoor practice facility and a substantial upgrade in pay for Fickell and his entire staff. All of that is closer than any of that was four days ago. He stays this time...again.

Yep, about 80-20 Republican. And a lot of the Democrats were union workers, which are both diminishing, and turning highly Republican the last decade or so. Now the Democrats left are mostly government workers.

We actually had a Democrat elected to the statehouse awhile ago who was pro-gun and pro-life. So, a somewhat conservative area :)

More Californians voted for Trump in 2020 than any other state in the entire country, including Texas. If Luke Fickell were concerned about finding like minded political neighbors there are plenty of options. If he's looking for a program that has a strong midwestern culture, a familiar recruiting base, and the resources to win instantly then USC is not the school for him. Frankly I think he would be a poor choice on their end as well. Regardless, there aren't a whole lot of fits in this scenario...but USC is a top 5 job.
